Role Overview:
The position of Electrical/HVAC technician , part of the Facilities team, works under limited direction
and with limited supervision and performs installation works, supervises and mentors apprentices,
performs routine maintenance tasks, modifications and fault repair of complex antenna and building
power systems. The Electrical/HVAC Technician has varying levels of responsibilities, determined in
consultation with the ASF Manager, across these areas:

               supervise apprentices and perform maintenance task
               specialist support in power and HVAC systems
               maintenance and technical planning
               Facilities project and contractor management support.




Duties:

SUPERVISE APPRENTICES AND PERFORM MAINTENANCE TASKS
    Perform maintenance and fault repair on power and HVAC systems:
     o      perform fault diagnosis of complex systems and installation/commissioning of complex
            systems
     o      supervision of external routine maintenance contractors on site
     o      responding to faults, complaints and incident reports
     o      liaising with internal and external customers and staff
     o      provide supervision and mentoring of Electrical and HVAC apprentices.
       Use established reporting tools and procedures to provide comprehensive management
        reports, as requested to ASF Manager.
       Effective communication, both orally and in writing, on technical and non-technical matters at
        Team and individual levels across the Complex.

SPECIALIST SUPPORT IN POWER AND HVAC SYSTEMS
     Provide specialist assistance on technical systems, including,
      o       power generation and distribution systems
      o       HVAC Systems
      o       BMS, SCADA and PLC systems
      o       participate in installation work
      o       assisting in development of technical standards where necessary
      o       operate powerhouse (following training) .

MAINTENANCE AND TECHNICAL PLANNING
     Assist in maintenance and technical planning in the Facilities and the Complex as a whole:
      o        participate in design and downtime readiness reviews and acceptance testing with Jet
               Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Goldstone Deep Space Communication Complex
               (GDSCC) and Madrid Deep Space Communication Complex (MDSCC)
      o        participate in and provide support for performance testing, data capture and analysis
               to assist with JPL development work and anomaly resolution
      o        providing local support and facilitate the coordination, implementation and testing of
               JPL engineered solutions
      o        technology assessment and practical evaluation, contributing to specification
               preparation for future enhancements and planning for future upgrades
      o        use Reliability Centre Maintenance (RCM) and Computerised Maintenance and
               Management System (CMMS) based tools to maintain and improve where possible
               maintenance efficiencies and reliability of systems
      o        participate in planning meetings, scheduling tasks and allocating task priorities.

FACILITIES PROJECT AND CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT SUPPORT:
      Provide support for ASF project and configuration management, including
       o       supervising contract staff on site on specific project tasks
      o        arranging and providing costings, quotes and orders for minor project

Pre-Requisite

1. Technical trade qualification in an electrical discipline.

2. Hold an Unrestricted ACT Electrical Licence.

3. Current unencumbered driver’s licence.


Essential Criteria:

1    Three years post trade experience working in an industrial type maintenance or operations
     environment.

2    Experience in HVAC, PLC and Industrial Control systems.

3    A demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and develop effective working relationships as part of a
     diverse, multidisciplinary team (e.g. engineers, technicians and operations staff).
4        Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Desirable Criteria

1.   Post trade qualifications in an electrical/HVAC discipline.

2.   Ability to exercise sound judgment and act on initiative in routine matters and when required
