Principal Notes
December 2010
Every day is an adventure at W. T. Moore! There is always something going on with
students actively engaged in learning. I am blessed to work with exceptional teachers and
staff and your children are the best part of our day. As we approach the holiday season,
I would like to wish you peace, happiness, and best wishes for a wonderful New Year.
NO Early Release Days:
Just a reminder that there are NO EARLY RELEASE DAYS scheduled in December.
The last day for students is Friday, December 17th.
Student Attendance:
It is important and also mandated by law that children have consistent attendance. We
begin promptly at 8:30 and dismiss at 2:50. Students are expected to be in attendance the
entire day unless we have a doctor’s or dentist’s excuse or a parent note on file
indicating why the child was absent or tardy. Students who arrive after 8:30 or who
leave before 2:50 are marked as tardy. These are indicated on the report card and are
monitored by district personnel. Parents of students with excessive absences or tardies
will be notified in writing and may receive a home visit if the situation continues. Please
ensure that your child arrives on time and is here the entire day. Thank you!
Holiday House:
Our PTM will be sponsoring a “Holiday House Shopping Bazaar” December 6th through
the 10th. Students may purchase items for themselves or family members for the holidays.
Watch for more information to come home with your child.
Sno-Cone Party:
It was my pleasure to host a sno-cone party last month for 375 of our E citizenship
students. Students who have an E in behavior on their report card are eligible. I would
love for all of our students to join me next time. Please remind your children that it is
important to be on their best Mustang behavior every day.
Yearbooks on Sale:
Now is the time to order your yearbook at a pre-sale price of $25. Our order is based the
number pre-ordered and only a very limited number of yearbooks will be available for
sale in the spring at a cost of $30. Please send in your money by December 10th.
SEE BACK
Mighty Math Mustangs:
Congratulations to our 4th and 5th graders who recently competed in the Rickards Mini
Mu competition. We had the highest number of students participating and even brought
home a trophy! Congratulations to Jessica Hance for her win!
Fences and Gates:
You may have noticed additional fencing and gates as you visit campus. The intent is to
direct all visitors to the front office to sign in before going onto the classroom or other
areas of the school. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our
precious Mustangs safe and secure at all times.
Jump Rope for Heart Update:
Thanks to all of you and your generosity, $1500 was raised for the American Heart
Association. Our P.E. teachers, Mrs. Paul and Mr. Shaw along with all of our wonderful
volunteers make this a special event every year. Our newest banner awarded by the
Heart Association is on display in the hallway by the cafeteria.
Can the Principal:
Students took this challenge seriously and filled my office with cans and non-perishable
items. It was great to see their faces as they came in each day with more cans to add to
the “pile”. We ended up with 900 pounds of food…enough to feed 700 families through
the Second Harvest Food Bank. Thank you for your generosity and wonderful example of
giving.
Lost and Found:
Thank you to Michelle Logsdon who has volunteered to organize our lost and found room
located in the cafeteria. We have an extensive collection of sweaters, jackets and lunch
boxes that have lost their owners. Please be sure that you clearly label everything that
your child brings to school so that we can return it when it is found. Anything remaining
at the holiday break will be donated to Goodwill.
W. T. Moore Website:
Be sure to visit our website at www.moore.leon.k12.fl.us for all kinds of information. Sign
up for our listserv so you are immediately notified via email anytime we send out a
notice. You can also watch our Good Morning Show by clicking on the WTME Videocast
button. All our teachers have a link to their websites and the holiday break is a great way
to check out educational links and activities for those days when children are looking for
something to do!
