     Dick Poppele honored with University of Minnesota Outstanding Community
       Service Award, as Community Partner with the University District Alliance.

In Case You Missed It:
    March 29 University District Forum, “Don’t Miss the Bus: Transit in the Age of
      Central Corridor”: 40+ attended this a.m. forum, including two newly appointed
      members of the Metropolitan Council, Adam Duinincks and Jennifer Munt. See
      presentations and a terrific animation of the Central Corridor train through the University
      District at Scroll down to the box, “University
      District Forum March 29”. University District Forums are guided by the Alliance Vision
      and Plan Committee, and moderated by Ted Tucker.
    March 30 Meeting of Neighborhood Livability Leaders. Over 40 neighborhood
      leaders and community partners attended this event that celebrated the
      accomplishments of the Strategic Compliance Team, including a 30+% decline in the
      number of livability-related police calls in 2010 in the campus-area neighborhoods.

      June 7 University District Forum, “Coming Home to the University District—
       Who’s Choosing to Live Smarter?” Matt Mullins of Maxfield Research and Kris
       Nelson of CURA will present the findings of the Alliance’s housing market study for the
       University District. Look for the registration soon on
      Stadium Village Area Plan Open Houses April 27 and May 3. The City of
       Minneapolis is lead agency in this planning effort looking at development potential and
       parking. Planners and consultants will present their findings to date and invite public

Student Academic Engagement in the University District:
    A team from the Alliance (thanks to Melissa Bean of Marcy-Holmes and John Capecci,
     of Capecci Communications) are working with students in Sauman (Sue) Chu’s graphic
     design class (Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel—College of Design) as they
     develop logos for the University District as part of their class assignment. Eleven
     students each developed three logo concepts, and had a critique last week from the
     Alliance team. The students will make their final class presentation on Thursday, April
     28, noon to 1:30 p.m., in Room 310 McNeal Hall, at 1985 Buford Avenue on the St. Paul
     campus. Steering Committee members are invited to attend, but RSVPs to are encouraged. To clarify, this is NOT an occasion when we will be
     selecting a logo for the University District. The purpose of attending the class
     presentation is to give feedback to the students. The results from the class project will
     be available to the Steering Committee. More location information for McNeal Hall is at
    Alliance Steering Committee member Phillip Kelly and Jan Morlock met last week with
     Katie Peacock (no relation to Steering Committee member Steve Peacock), in the
     University’s Community Service-Learning Center, to explore how the Alliance could
     create more systematic relationships with undergraduate students through service
     learning. Phillip will give a report on this discussion at the April meeting of the Steering
