                                        PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Senior IT and Project Manager/Systems and Web Administrator August 2008 – January 2010
Metabasis Therapeutics, Inc., La Jolla, CA

My Responsibilities included hands-on and management support of, network infrastructure, Trackit helpdesk,
budget, and project management, development of system requirements, and writing policies and procedures. I
personally handled all accounting applications including the ERP System. Worked with management and
department heads on IT related activities and personally handled all company databases and software
applications, enabled Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) reporting, negotiated contracts with vendors/contractors, handled
renewals, managed IT purchasing and inventory and maintained web sites.

Key Projects and Accomplishments:
 Justified, developed and implemented a Data Migration Plan to move the company and user’s data, email and
SQL databases to a NetApp 2520 San filer. This included planning and executing the project, working with
the department heads, working closely with the project team, scheduling, gathering the business and
hardware requirements, work breakdown schedule, working with vendors and training the users. This also
included writing test scripts to validate the movement of the ERP databases and the Microsoft Exchange
    databases.
 Introduced and developed the use of knowledge base in order to expedite the IT staff performance to respond
faster to users and effectively solve IT related issues by sharing the knowledge.
 Implemented group policies within Active Directory to provide a more efficient way to create users and groups
for each department and then restructured permissions for users and groups in all company data folders to
provide better performance and security. Set up desktops and trained users on new procedures.
 Set up and implemented Distributed File System to manage the company’s data folder structure and provide
faster and more efficient data location and security to allow users to see and use only what they needed.
 Discovered problem with the performance and speed of the network. Ran bench mark tests and reports on
network and servers. Domain users were authenticating to a pilot office server outside of San Diego. Fixed
the problem on the domain server and increased the network speed and performance by 50%.
 Supported several reductions in workforce by creating procedures to lock down the company data during the
layoffs, changed network passwords, disabled accounts, archived data, and handled the collecting of
computer equipment and cell phones. Handled the IT aspects of the closing of a remote site and moved
user’s data and email profiles to La Jolla servers.
 Restructured and execute IT Business Operations to minimize and move the entire network infrastructure and
integrate it within a new business. This included Active Directory user database, software, company data,
applications, databases, desktops, servers, and the network infrastructure.

Throughout the upgrade coordinated needs and related activities of QA, Research and Development,
Regulatory, Clinical, and IT.
As System Administrator, maintained approximately 80 servers and 20 devices on the network

Key Projects and Accomplishments:
 Livelink project included personally installing server program on several different platforms, scheduling and
executing the project, writing extensive scripts for validating procedures for users, designing and
implementing new network diagram for data structure of groups and permissions, working with vendors,
installing client Livelink program on desktops, writing training documentation and training users.
 Coordinated the server room move from one campus to another. Provided technical expertise to the
stakeholders regarding the power requirements and placement of the racks and network hardware. Worked
directly with vendors regarding cabling, power, T1, and PRI lines.
 Setup Terminal Services and Group Policies to only allow viewing files through Livelink to outside potential
partners. Worked directly with customers to access the web link and trained users how to view files. Also
worked remotely to troubleshoot any problems with permission and viewing of files.
 Wrote Software Upgrade Plan including specifications and prices for Microsoft Vista, Office, Server 2008,
SQL and Oracle. This included the pros and cons of the upgrade, required hardware/software and timelines
which showed the ending support and the upgrading of the existing software.
 Created an IT manual to document all IT procedure using an online setup for easy accessibility.

PRI lines, servers, patch panels, routers, desktops/laptops, Avaya phone system, E-Mail, Security, VPN,
Backups, Hardware, Software, and printers. No downtime was experienced by the users since the servers,
routers, computers, and printers were moved and re-setup during the New Years Eve 3 day weekend.
 Setup and implemented a project plan to split off Semdirector from its sister company Silicon Space. The
careful planning and implementation resulted in a 40% cost savings in all the equipment purchases for the
company. This included choosing and installing hardware/software (racks, servers, desktops, cabling, router,
  switches, and firewall).
 Researched, setup and implemented a new 24/7 JIRA Help Desk System for IT and Facilities Departments.
This improved response time by half, doubled productivity, allowed tracking capabilities, and produced reports
for upper management to determine work completed.
 Managed department budget and inventory for computers, servers, software, and hardware supply. This
included accounting and software engineering programs. Also responsible for software procurement, licensing
  and hardware warranties and vendors.
 Negotiated, established, and implemented procedures for phone, voicemail, and mobile requirements
including the synchronization for company Treo’s and Blackberries. Setup OWA and OMA, which allowed
user’s to communicate from outside the network using their personal cell phones.

and printers. Also installed Conference Manager Collaboration software and wrote documentation for users to
install and run all the software. Project resulted in significant increases to productivity, reduced cost, and
provided extensive savings for the company.
 Installed WS-FTP encrypted Server/Client software which included setting up a separate server outside the
company’s firewall with network account and permission for employees, clients, and vendors.
 Disaster Recovery and BCP Plan: I was part of a team which developed the standards and reports for writing
the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan for L-3 Communications in order to be in compliance
with Sarbanes-Oxley. I also managed, published, and maintained all documentation for ISO9000 on the
