ESBL producing organisms.
4.      Shiga toxin EIA assay
5.      EIA assay for Girdia, Cryptosporidium and E. histolytica
6.      Affirm DAN probe assay for diagnosis of vaginosis
7.      Processing of stool specimen for O and P microscopic examination
8.      DNA probe assay for C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae
9.      Identification of anaerobic bacteria by rapid tests and Micrscan
panels.
10.     Anaerobic antimicrobial susceptibility testing
11.     Processing of positive blood cultures

Mycobacteriology and Legionella

1.    Observe processing of a positive MGIT tube.
2.    Observe AFB susceptibility testing using the MGIT 960
3.    Observe AFB susceptibility testing by the proportion method
4.    Observe AFB identification using DNA probe hybridization assay

6.      During respiratory virus season, interpret a FA stain for respiratory
viruses using the antibody pool
7.      Examine mycoplasma/ureaplasma cultures and recognize typical
colony morphologies
8.      Review the QC requirements and review all QC records for the past
2 months

Precedures to be observed and performed when possible
1.      Observe the processing of specimens for viral culture
2.      Observe the processing and set of the C. difficile toxin
neutralization assay, including preparation of tissue culture plates.
3.      Observe tissue culture procedures including propagation of cell
lines and the preparation of plates and tube cultures.
4.      Observe the hybrid capture assay for the detection of CMV from
blood and understand the principles of the test
5.      During respiratory virus season, observe the processing of
specimens and inoculation of R-mix cells for the rapid detection of
respiratory viruses.
