Mary’s Retirement Poem
You worked for the U some 34 years
Otolargology and Real Estate – your first endeavors.
Then you moved to supporting Controller office whatevers.
There was FSS, ECS, MST, FSUNING,
And listservs and calendars and agenda and meetings.
Now keeping in mind if you know what these are,
You’re a savy U employee of “acronym’ folklore!
You helped with the ARFs and what Security brings
And helped on the Helpline with helpliney things.
Because of the skills you have greatly achieved,
We know you could administer the whole U with ease!
Enough of this work stuff, now on to some things
That you’ve done in the past while ‘administering’.
You traveled to Alaska and saw lots of sites
You traveled to Italy and saw its highlights.
Now once you retire your travels won’t end,
It’s on to Mexico and who knows ‘where’ then.
The future will hold the following plan and I bet
You will do these things over and over again.
There is precious spent time you will sure to employ,
To be grandma to Mia, your new pride and joy.
You’ll play and you’ll babysit, helping Ma Ma Julie
And be there for Mia for whatever needs be.
Another leisurely time you are sure to partake
Is the third Thursday a month to eat with Marge Lee.
So try the new restaurants and feed on new food
And go out with your friends that make merriment mood.
While Tom is out gulfing getting ‘hole-in-one’ rushes
You should be casinoing getting slot royal flushes.
And what about going in parks all around
For cute little trinkets sure to be found.
We will miss you on 6th floor between 9:30 and 10:00
Where we’d see you walking in circles with a coworker friend.
We’ll miss you in FSUN where you held meetings galore
And we’ll miss you downstairs where you administered more.
As employment in Central now comes to an end
We will all miss our smiley, organized friend.
But we’ll know where to find you as your retirement unfolds
In the Real Estate Office where you started before.
Or maybe while shopping we’ll see you some more,
Ringing up items at the Home Depot store.
Enjoy your retirement, do lots of fun stuff
And give us a call when time is enough.
Be sure to send emails and pictures of Mia
And splendid new restaurants where we should be eating.
You know I can’t let you get away from us here
Without sheepishly grinning and telling sincere
That the one thing Mary will miss mostly dear
Is our singing the Hippo song in December each year!
