Since Analomink Road is a state highway, the Township will need to work with PennDOT to
implement any study findings and/or proposed improvements within their right-of-way to ensure -
all appropriate permits are obtained
STUDIES
Spot Speed Study - Conduct vehicular spot-speed studies in accordance with PennDOT
Publication 212’s Appendix to determine the 85th percentile speeds along SR 0447 in both -
directions
Gap Study - To determine if there is a gap acceptance issue, consider completing a gap study to
                                                                                                        -
determine if there are adequate gaps in the SR 0447 traffic

Sight Distance - Conduct corner sight distance surveys in accordance with PennDOT
Publication 212’s Appendix to determine if there is adequate sight distance for vehicles to safely -
turn onto SR 0447 from Fawn Road based on the 85th percentile speeds along SR 0447

Signal Warrant Analysis - complete a signal warrant analysis at this intersection in accordance
with Chapter 4C of the MUTCD and PennDOT Publication 212, Subchapter D to confirm that a
signal is warranted at this time. If the study indicates that a signal is warranted and -
recommended, complete additional capacity analyses to ensure accurate modeling of proposed
conditions.
SHORT-TERM SOLUTIONS

Roadside Object Removal and/or Relocation - Once the appropriate clear zone widths are
determined along Brushy Mountain Road, identify what objects such as utility poles, trees, and
signs are within the limits of the clear zone and pose a safety risk for run-off-the-road vehicles.
Once identified, prioritize these objects for removal/relocation based on the crash history VARIES
(frequency and severity) and the potential for future conflicts. Coordinate with property
owners and utility companies to have these objects removed or relocated starting with the most
high-risk objects.
Skid-Resistant Overlays - Consider applying either skid-resistive overlays or pavement
grooving throughout the curves to increase the skid resistance of the driving surface if it was VARIES
determined in the studies that the skid resistance of the roadway surface is deficient
Speed Trailers - Consider utilizing speed trailers, which provide visual feedback to motorists NEW

during the safe-running speed studies. $12,500
Enforcement - Consider using targeted law enforcement to enforce the posted legal speed limit
along problem sections of Brushy Mountain Road as identified during the safe-running speed VARIES

Roadside Object Removal and/or Relocation - Once the appropriate clear zone widths are
determined along Cranberry Road, identify what objects such as utility poles, trees, and signs
are within the limits of the clear zone and pose a safety risk for run-off-the-road vehicles. Once
                                                                                                      VARIES
identified, prioritize these objects for removal/relocation based on the crash history (frequency
and severity) and the potential for future conflicts. Coordinate with property owners and utility
companies to have these objects removed or relocated starting with the most high-risk objects.

Skid-Resistant Overlays - Consider applying either skid-resistive overlays or pavement
grooving throughout the curves to increase the skid resistance of the driving surface if it was VARIES
determined in the studies that the skid resistance of the roadway surface is deficient
Guiderail Lengths and End Treatments - Replace the turned-down end treatments of the
guiderail along the southbound approach with acceptable end treatments according to VARIES
PennDOT Publication 13M (DM-2) and PennDOT Publication 72 (RC Standards).
Speed Trailers - Consider utilizing speed trailers, which provide visual feedback to motorists NEW
on how fast they are traveling, along problem sections of Cranberry Road as identified during TRAILER ≈
the safe-running speed studies. $12,500

Enforcement - Consider using targeted law enforcement to enforce the posted legal speed limit

MID-TERM SOLUTIONS
                             ENHANCED BASIC TREATMENTS
Horizontal Alignment Signs - Based on the results of the curve speed studies, consider
installing a second, identical set of oversized TURN (W1-1 series), CURVE (W1-2 series),
                                                                                                   $1,125.00
REVERSE TURN (W1-3 series), and/or REVERSE CURVE (W1-4 series) signs on the left
side of the roadway along with their appropriate advisory placard, if necessary
Edge Lines - If the lane widths are greater than 10-feet, consider using a wider white edge line
                                                                                                    $600.00

STUDIES

Spot Speed Study - Submit a request to PennDOT to conduct a vehicular spot-speed study in
accordance with PennDOT Publication 212’s Appendix to determine the 85th percentile speed -
along Wigwam Park Road near the intersection with Cranberry Road.

Sight Distance - Conduct corner sight distance surveys in accordance with PennDOT
Publication 212 to determine if there is adequate sight distance for vehicles turning from

intersections of Cranberry Road with Wigwam Park Road. Complete the traffic volume studies
                                                                                                       -

special traffic conditions so as to get data that best reflects average traffic volumes.

SHORT-TERM SOLUTIONS
                                    BASIC TREATMENTS
Intersection Warning Signs - Consider installing OFFSET SIDE ROADLEFT (W2-1-1L)
intersection warning sign rotated 90 degrees on the southbound leg of Cranberry Road (T-496) $400.00
in advance of the intersection as per MUTCD, 2003 Edition, Section 2C.05 to warn the
motorists of the upcoming offset side road
Intersection Warning Signs - Consider supplementing this sign with a SINGLE-LINE

Pavement Markings - Consider providing diagonal pavement markings in the shoulder area
along Wigwam Park Road (shoulder goring)to bring attention to the intersection and reduce $2,600.00
motorists’ speed by creating a squeezing effect
Pavement Markings - Consider providing dashed white edge lines and yellow centerlines that
extend across the intersection along Wigwam Park Road to better delineate the intersection to $50.00
