PART A - SECTION SUMMARY

A.1 Executive Summary – containing the major event, achievement and
highlights.

      23 Technical Programs
      A very successful Student Section Congress - 2007
      Very successful Branch Counselor’s Congress - 2007
      Very successfull “All India Students Projects Contest – 2007”
      Very active participation of SEC members in activities conducted by
      Student Branches
      Formed new Joint Chapter of MTT / AP / EMC

The IEEE Hyderabad Section is a very active Section of IEEE in India. It was
formed by elevation from a sub-section status to a full Section, in 1984, the year
of IEEE centenary celebrations. All IEEE members (of all grades), residing in the
state of Andhra Pradesh except those who are covered under Guntur Sub
Section, India, are automatically members of the IEEE Hyderabad Section.

The last AGM was held on February 10th 2008 at “Family World” Begumpet,
Hyderabad and Special AGM was held on 08th August 2007 at “Kamat Lingapur
Hotel” Begumpet, Hyderabad.

It may be noted that expenditure was INR 221131.42 more than income and
was drawn from section reserves. Same trend is likely to continue unless
we get some sponsor for our Section.

Strict monetary control was exercised in all Section and Technical Chapter
expenditures.

CHAPTER WISE BREAKUP

The Hyderabad Section has three technology-specific chapters viz.:

Lot of effort has been made by Members of SEC to retain the membership by
regular interaction with them during various activities organized by the Section as
well as the Society Chapters. Student Activity Chair, Chairman, Secretary, and
other members of SEC visited Engineering colleges across Andhra Pradesh and
motivated Student to become Student Members and revived a number of sick
Student Branches. These efforts are likely to result improvement in Student
Membership strength in the coming year.
      ADMINISTRATIVE MEETINGS: The SEC met 12 times to plan and monitor the
      technical and administrative activities for the year. PES/IAS Chapter and
      Committee had 3 Administrative meetings. Computer Society Chapter and
      Committee had 3 Administrative meetings. Chapters primarily relied on electronic
      communication for planning their activities.

      17th FARADAY MEMORIAL LECTURE 2007: Prof. V. Umapathi Reddy has
      given his invited talk on “Technologies for the upcoming wireless
      Communications”. Thanks to all the volunteers for making the event a success.
      In particular, thanks to Dr. S. C. Bhargava for taking keen interest in making this
      annual event a grand success time and again.

      B.4 Students Activities
          Active Student Branch activities including student paper contest, recruitment
          of student members

      IEEE Hyderabad Section recognizes the need to promote and support the
      younger generation in its quest for entering a career in CSE, EE, ECE and allied
      disciplines. The Section extends its support and assistance to the student
      community, in the following forms:

      Visits by members: Students Activities Chair visited many colleges in AP where
      IEEE Student branch is not there and educated the student’s about IEEE. The
      Section encourages visits by its members to Student Branches.

   6. Vigyan Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.

The Student Activities Chair Mr. Srinivasa Nukala visited a number of Student
Branches and organized many events for the benefit of Students of Engineering
colleges during the year 2007.

Apart from the above, a number of Student branches have organized technical
events and student paper contests. Some of these are briefly brought out in the
Section News Letter.

B.5 Awards

    Awards received

Awards and Recognition
       A team of four students from the Center for VLSI and Embedded System
       Technologies (CVEST), IIIT won . the Intel India Research Challenge
       (IIRC) for the year 2007 and a cash prize of Rs.100,000. The team
       consisted of Sreehari (Student Member), Keerthi Krishna (Student
       Member), Avinash and Srikanth Reddy. The team won the contest for their
       research work entitled ‘Design of A High Speed 32-bit Arithmetic and
       Logic Unit’ and was guided by Dr. M. B. Srinivas.
        Certificate of Distinction to IEEE Hyderabad Section for successfully
        organizing Branch Counselors Congress- 2007 in the month of April 2007.
        Outstanding Small Joint Chapter Award to Industry Applications Society.
        Outstanding Engineer award was presented to Mr. T. R. Rajagopalan of
        PE Society

B.7 E-mail and Newsletter Activities, Home Page

Newsletter: The Section has brought out three issues of News Letter ‘Synapse’
during 2007. However, the issue brought out in Jan 2008 which includes
activities carried out up to December 2007 is also enclosed in support of the
activities carried out. The untiring efforts made by News-letter Editor Mr.
Padmaprabodh Ambale are appreciated.

Section Website: Mr. Shatrunjay Rawat, Treasurer Hyderabad Section also
acted as Webmaster of the Section Website.

Administrative Matters

The following administrative decisions were taken:

   1. It has been decided to use e-mail and Section website for informing the
      members and others about technical and other meetings. Paper mail will
      be sent only to those who do not have e-mail address.

   2. A refrigerator and microwave oven is available to ensure that visitors to
      the Section office are comfortable.

Staff: Mr. Hemant Muljaker and Mr Venu, are working for admin support of the
Section with remuneration. Accountant is paid remuneration of Rs.1000/- per
month. Internet access to members is available at Section Office during Section
office working hours. Telephone Bills, Property Tax, Maintenance Bills have
been settled update.

PART D - GOALS AND PLANS
      C2 Goals and future plans

 The following are some of the activities planned to be organized during 2008:
      A Half-Day Tutorial on ‘Advances in Image and Video Processing’
      followed by a lecture by Prof. Rama Chellappa, University of Maryland,
      March 15, 2008
      A One-Day Tutorial on ‘Wireless and Mesh Networking’ by Dr.Suman
      Banerjee, Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison, May 2008 (planned)
      AES Student Design Contest, 2008
      Section Student Congress
      Theme : Innovation and Entrepreneurship
      TENCON 2008, November 18-21, 2008
   Several Plenary Talks, Invited Talks, tutorials, workshops, etc.. will be held
   as a part of the conference

► The Section formed on May 14, 1984
► Propose to Celebrate 25th year of formation starting May 14, 2008 until
  May 13, 2009
► It is proposed to honor all past section chairs by organizing an important
