                                           8
                                       MCYFL
                                 HEAD COACH RULES

One Head Coach, Two Assistant Coaches, three cheerleading training coaches per squad.
All training coaches must be on a cheerleading squad at the High School Level. The Head
Training Coach must be 16 years old.

All Coaches will follow the League rules from the beginning of the season.

Coaching young people is an exciting way to be involved in sports but it isn’t easy! Some
coaches are overwhelmed by the responsibilities involved in helping athletes thought their
early sport experiences. That is not surprising, because coaching cheerleaders requires
more than bringing the pom poms and any other equipment to the field and just letting
them cheer. It involves preparing them physically and mentally, teaching proper
techniques, teamwork, to compete effectively, fairly, and safely in their sport and
providing them a positive role model.

Many coaches are parents, but the two roles should not be confused. As a parent, you are
responsible only to yourself and your child, as a coach, you are responsible to the
organization (MCYFL), all the cheerleaders on the squad (including your child), and the
parents.

A coach assumes the responsibility of doing everything possible to ensure that the
cheerleader on her squad will have an enjoyable and safe experience while they learn
proper technique and cheerleading skills. If you are ever in doubt about your approach,
remind yourself that FUN, FUNDAMENTALS AND SAFETY is most important.
Cheerleading should be fun. Even if nothing else is accomplished, make certain your
cheerleaders have fun! Take the fun out of cheerleading and you will take the kids out of
cheerleading.

At MCYFL, cheerleaders should learn to have fun, learn cheerleading techniques, work as a
team, learn about football, how to cheer the game, how to hold up your head in a loss, and
be honorable in victory. MCYFL is proud of the reputation we have built over the years,
let’s keep it that way. Before any person will be allowed contact with our children, they
must first fill out the appropriate paperwork and have a background check completed. Only
approved coaches or cheer helpers will be allowed to coach or assist with our cheerleaders.

If you have a problem with a child or a parent, bring it to the Boards attention after the
first incident. DO NOT wail until the end of the season. Any Coach that does not start at
the first of the year with the League Rules will not have the Boards support if there is a
problem.

                                             9
Head Coaches are ultimately responsible for the actions of their assistants and training
coaches and team.

There will NOT be any name calling or un-sportsmanlike conduct during the season
between teams. If there are any reports of this conduct, the two teams will be called in
for discussion and each team will receive 15 points off their competition score sheet.

All teams will wear shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers for practice. Shorts must be long enough
to cover bottom and not rolled down too low. T-shirt must also cover stomach. This is
Cheerleading practice; we are not out there to attract/distract the boys.

If a Head Coach is unable to be at a Saturday Game or their practice, there must be an
Assistant Adult Coach present. This MAY NOT be a parent, it must be one of the
registered Adult Coaching Staff that has gone through the background check.

Any Coach having illegal practices or illegal fund-raisers will be dismissed from the league.

All Head Coaches are responsible for monies and paperwork required through the season.
Keep all records of fundraisers, absences and any team problems to report to the Board.
When monies are due, the checks made out to MCYFL can be turned in, must have check
presenters driver license number on the check and any cash will need to be in Money Order
form. The Head Coach or Assistant Coach will present any money turned in. All Coaches will
turn in money on time for Sonny’s tickets, button or magnet money or competition tickets.
Coaches not turning in money on time will not be in competition or exhibition and the team
will not take the field for their game. Coaches need to find Lois and turn in money before
your game starts. Be early so you have time to turn in money before you meet your team.
You can always ask for Lois at the concession stand and you will be directed to her.
All records of Fund-raisers and monies raised and spent must be turned in along with
the competition tickets. If this is not turned in your team will not participate in the
exhibition or competition. You should keep records that are self-explanatory.

All turn in dates are given when the season starts. Follow the instructions for Sonny’s
Tickets and Competition Tickets. NO CASH!! Any money turned in to you will be turned in
by money order ONLY!! NO Personal Checks from coaches or person in charge of fund-
raiser.

All Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, training Coaches, and representatives of a team will
conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times. Any coach breaking this rule
will be dismissed from the league

NO team will practice out of district or change their practice site before Competition.

                                             10
NO team will practice on whatever competition field the League will be using for
competition. This also includes those teams that may have to cheer the day of competition
at the field of Competition. YOU MAY NOT USE THIS AS A PRACTICE. YOU MAY
NOT DO YOUR COMPETITION ROUTINE ON THE FIELD. 25 points will be taken off
any teams score sheet found in violation of this.

In November, during competition practice, each team will get to practice on a lined field.
MCYFL field is the only legal field to be used. If you have access to a lined practice field,
you have to contact the cheer representative for approval. Each team will have a set time
to practice on MCYFL’s field; we will schedule several teams at one time. The idea is to use
the lines on the field, does not necessarily mean you will be on the 50 yard line. All
practices will be for 1½ hour during one of your regular practices.

If you are with a team that wins the Championship Football game, you will be on the float
for the Christmas Parade, with the Football Players. You will be required to help the
football team build the float.

As Head Coach, or Assistant Coach you have a large responsibility to remember we
are working with children and are here to teach them good sportsmanship and have
fun.

All games, practices and functions are solely for the benefit of the children.

All coaches should strive to get along with your parents, the board and other officials. DO
not show seeds of dissension though our league. We are a league, we do not compete with
each other, and we help each other.

NO DRUGS/SMOKING OR ALCOHOL AT ANY MCYFL FUNCTION.

When lightening is within sight or sound, practice is to be immediately stopped. Parents
will be encouraged to help monitor situations and coaches will respect a parents right to
remove their child from potential danger.

Only coaches, players, league officials, and game officials are allowed on the field or
sidelines. This is for practice and / or games.

All Head coaches and assistant coaches must go by the MCYFL rules through out the
season. Head coaches or their designee must attend ALL MCYFL functions. Also, the head
coach must attend coaches meetings as called by the Cheer Representatives. Failure to
show to coaches meetings can and will have affects for your coaching opportunities the
following year.

                                             11
Head coaches and assistant coaches must support and participate in all league fund-raising.
Coaches and their squads must participate in all pre-season, regular season, and post-
season activities, including jamborees, playoffs, championship games and competitions.
Coaches are encouraged to communicate with each other as well as with the Cheer Reps. in
the event they are unable to attend any of these functions, as well as practices.

The Board of MCYFL will approve all coaches. If someone wishes to coach, a coach’s
application form must be filled out in its entirety. Only official, approved coaches will be
allowed on the practice fields, game fields, and contact with the cheerleaders. All others
must be asked to leave. It is the responsibility of the Head Coach to make sure that this
rule is enforces. Violations of this can and will lead to the suspension of the Head coach.
Persons who interfere with our activities can be removed by law enforcement if they
persist in interfering.

NO VERBAL OR PHYSIVCAL ABUSE WILL BE TOLERATED!! This includes abuse on
coaches, parents or children. There cannot be any insulting, coarse or bad language,
mistreatment in any form, hateful remarks, or injury of any person, etc… ANY INCIDENT

REPRESENTATIVES. Please try and remember that you can destroy a person’s self-
esteem and create terrible feelings by one nasty remark that you thought no one heard!

Again, ALL coaches’ actions MUST be in accordance with MCYFL rules.

                        MCYFL Fundraiser
                          BBQ Tickets

This fundraiser is how our league runs. It is the responsibility of
the Coach to try to get your cheerleaders to sell all 30 tickets.
Each person that sells their 30 tickets, the will receive a MCYFL
jacket in the color of the league. If the Whole team sells out,
the team may choose their team color.

If a team does not sell out, it is NOT an option for the team to
just go out and purchase a MCYFL jacket in their color.

The MCYFL Jacket is an incentive for your team to sell out.
This league needs this fundraiser to operate each year.
PLEASE help your teams and sell these tickets!

Note to ALL!!

During Competition last year we had several Senior Cheerleaders in
the concession stand line, and hanging out with boyfriends outside
the roped area. The rules state NO concession stand food. I have
added to the rules this year that NO Cheerleader is allowed
outside the roped area. Several girls gave me attitude for breaking
them and their boyfriend up kissing and so on. We WILL NOT
tolerate ANY of that this year. Coaches it is your responsibility to
keep ALL your girls together.

Thank You,

Lisa Stewart
