Basic Function: Summarize the position and how it relates to the school district and its goals.

Essential Functions:
Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. They are essential for one or more of the following
reasons:
                         A. The number of employees available to perform the function is limited.
                         B. The function requires specialized skills.
                         C. The function occupies a large percentage of time.
                         D. Failure to perform the function may have serious consequences.

             Examples from Iowa School Districts include:

          1. Purchase and maintain an inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
          2. Record all food requisitions from the storeroom.
          3. Check all bills, food shipments, and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the
              business manager for payment.
          4. Plan disposition of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service program.
          5. Keep food production records and an accurate account of students and adults fed every day.
          6. Plan and check all menus for school lunches and special dinners.
          7. Inform the public by sending a menu home on a monthly basis of planned lunch menus.
          8. Supervise the planning and preparation of any special meals required for district sponsored events.
          9. Check that high standards of health and safety are maintained and observe possible improvements
              in operations.
          10. Recruit, train, and supervise all food service personnel, and make recommendations on their
              employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
          11. Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
          12. Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously.
          13. Maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the community.
          14. Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
          15. Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
          16. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and communicate the same to the
              community.
          17. Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance
              responsibility.
          18. Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
          19. Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies, and
              administrative rules.
