Development and Certification Considerations,
RTCA/DO-IMA (ED-124)
• Why are we writing a new AC for IMA?
      – TSO C-153 and AC 20-145 addresses IMA
        hardware elements (software limited).
      – In July 2002, a joint RTCA/EUROCAE committee
was established to develop new guidance for IMA.
      – New AC will recognize new guidance for IMA via
        RTCA/DO-IMA (ED-124).

• What are the terms of reference for SC-200
  and WG-60?
      – Support certification of all classes of aircraft
        implementing IMA.
      – Key characteristics of IMA defined.
      – Propose and document means for the stand-alone
approval of modular avionics separate from the
        applications.
      – Transfer of certification credit and reuse of IMA
        components and systems.
      – Coordinate IMA issues with other groups.

• Term of reference (continue)
      – Create guidance to address the following safety and
        performance issues:
         • Partitioning & resource management
         • Fault management & health monitoring
         • Design/developmental design assurance
         • Configuration management
         • Environmental qualification
         • Safety & Security
         • Considerations for continued airworthiness

AC 20-Databus, Aviation Databus Assurance

• Why are we writing a new AC for aviation
  databus assurance?
      – New databuses and databus components are being
        proposed for certification projects
      – Modern databus technology are more complex while
        providing increased performance & bandwidth,
greater flexibility in configuration, and reduced
        assembly, design, and integration time.
      – Establish evaluation criteria to address safety
        concerns for aviation databuses.
