Make Your Own Sauces and Purees
Blenders are an excellent tool in the modern kitchen. Since many people are
working hard to lose weight or maintain a healthy diet, a blender can be a
smart companion to the stove in your home. Blending fresh fruits or vegetables
into purées and sauces can cut down on the added cholesterol, sodium and
fat in your diet. These delicious and healthy purées are perfect for adding
flavor to any dish.

Simple Purées

A vegetable puree is often served with fish or poultry in the finest restaurants.
Simple purées made from carrots, cauliflower or potatoes can be the base to a
scrumptious soup or might even garnish a steak.

Creating a purée is easy, especially in a blender. To make a perfect cauliflower
purée, just add two cups of steamed cauliflower to your blender's carafe. Add 2
teaspoons of warm olive oil and a clove of garlic.

You can salt or pepper the cauliflower to taste but there is really no need to
add any other spices.

Blend on a high speed until the mixture is completely creamy.

This purée can be served in place of mashed potatoes or even as a garnish
for grilled salmon or blackened chicken. The mild flavor of the cauliflower is
excellent with any strong-flavored protein.

Simple Sauces

Sauces are another favorite when it comes to cooking with a blender. Sauces
come in so many varieties that it is difficult to choose a favorite. Using fresh
vegetables in your sauces makes them healthy and nutritious.

For a spicy Hollandaise sauce, just add 3 egg yolks and 1/2 of a cup of
softened butter to your blender. Mix in 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and a dash
of cayenne pepper. Once you have blended these ingredients, you can salt to
taste or skip the salt completely.

Hollandaise sauce is delicious on steaks or even roast beef - plus it is
extremely simple to make. The great thing about making sauces in your blender
is the fact that, although it does not take a lot of time to make the sauce, it
definitely tastes like it took time!

Get Fruits and Vegetables into Your Diet

Blender sauces and purées are easy ways to add vegetables and fruits to
everyday meals. Fruit purées are wonderful for adding flavor to poached fish.

Add 1 cup of raspberries and 1/2 of a tablespoon of raspberry vinegar to your
blender. Purée the raspberries until they are smooth and then add 2
tablespoons of olive oil.

Purée again until smooth for a glaze that makes salmon both delicious and
surprisingly tasty.

Simple purées are a fun way to add flavor to any dish, even breakfast. Cover
your scrambled eggs with a garlic and ricotta cheese purée for a breakfast that
tastes like a professional chef visited your kitchen!

Make Healthy Shakes and Drinks
Most healthy drinks and shakes begin with fresh ingredients. Adding some fresh
fruit or vegetable drinks to your diet is a great way to increase your energy
levels and to stick to your health goals. Using your blender to create these
drinks can be both fun and fast. There are dozens of delicious recipes for
blender shakes, smoothies and drinks and many of these recipes are included
with your blender!

Protein Shakes

For the dieter, between-meal snacking is one of the most difficult roadblocks in
a diet. A healthy shake with a little protein added can keep you feeling full for
a long period of time and can help you avoid snacking on cookies or chips.
Creating a great protein shake is simple and quick, especially with today's
powerful blenders.

Choose a protein powder in a flavor that you enjoy or pick one that blends
well with fruits. Vanilla powder is perfect for adding to a banana shake, making
the shake a complete meal replacement drink. Chocolate protein powder is also
delicious with bananas, so your choices are easy. Add the protein powder to a
combination of fruit and yogurt and blend them thoroughly.

Once blended, you have a meal that includes both dairy, fruit and protein.
Drink this shake with a small vegetable salad and you have a complete and
healthy meal!

Vegetables as Well as Fruits

Drinks can be made from vegetables as well as fruits. Well-blended
combinations of carrots and cucumbers make a tasty treat when you are on
the go. Steamed vegetables can be pureed and then chilled for delicious and
nutritious non-alcoholic cocktails. Spiced tomato and celery puree served with a
slice of bread makes a delicious lunch time meal.

Smoothies

Smoothies and shakes are a favorite when it comes to making drinks with a
blender. A smoothie can be made with either yogurt or ice cream and of
course, shakes are always made with ice cream.

Vanilla ice cream is a great base for almost any shake. Just drop two scoops
of vanilla ice cream into your blender and add a cup of milk. Fresh berries or
bananas add plenty of flavor and, when blended well, you have a homemade
shake that does not cost a fortune.

Smoothies are great for the summer, especially if you are watching your weight.
A low-fat yogurt and fruit smoothie is almost as satisfying as a shake and has
a third of the calories.

Making drinks with your blender can be fun for the whole family. Use your
blender for shakes and let the children choose their favorite flavors and you
have a spectacular summertime activity.

Fill your carafe with ice and you can also make virgin daiquiris for pool parties.
Use your imagination and there really is no limit to the drink menu that you
can create with your blender!

Why Tower Blenders and Better than Hand Blenders
The blender market is filled with choices. Choosing the right blender for your
kitchen can seem like a daunting task, especially when you are faced with the
myriad of blender styles. Tower blenders and hand blenders, or immersion
blenders, are the two most popular blender styles available today. Although
each blender has its benefits, the tower blender tends to be the more practical
choice.

An immersion or hand blender is meant to be used within the same container
used to serve the food. This means that a large bowl or a narrow glass can be
the carafe for your immersion blender.

This sounds like a great option until you actually use the immersion blender.
Because of the force required during the blending procedure, food tends to fly
everywhere. Dodging the flying pieces of fruit or ice can become quite a feat
while working with a hand blender.

Many times, an immersion blender will spray food or ice onto the floor and
cabinet area of a kitchen, especially when you are working on a counter top.

A tower blender is a closed system. Once your food is placed into the carafe
and the lid is closed, there is no way that food can wander out of the blender.
This makes a tower blender much cleaner and safer to operate than a hand
blender.

Exposed blades are another issue when it comes to immersion blenders. These
blenders have a handle and protective covering but below the handle, the
blades are definitely exposed. Once the blender is in motion, those blades are
quite dangerous.

A tower blender has blades that are exposed only when the carafe is open.
Once the food is inside the container, there is absolutely no way that fingers
can be placed in the way of the blades. Tower blenders are much safer to
handle than immersion blenders and even children can help with blending tasks
when you have a tower blender.

Kitchen Blender Tips and Tricks 2012

Tower blenders are also much more versatile than a hand blender. Although
you can purée and create sauces with an immersion blender, the task is easier
with a tower blender.

There is no way that an immersion blender can handle the tough work of
creating a nut butter or other thick spread. Tower blenders have more
horsepower and can handle heat better than an immersion blender. Crushing
ice and making smoothies can also be much quicker with a tower blender than
with a hand blender.

Although both types of blenders perform similar tasks, the tower blender is a
hands-down winner when it comes to kitchen safety, versatility and cleanliness.
Choosing the right tower blender for your kitchen is a whole other process but
a tower is definitely the right choice.

Why Every Kitchen Needs a Blender
Especially in today's culture of fast food and hustle and bustle, blenders are
probably not the first thing on the list when outfitting a kitchen. Those noisy
counter top blenders of the past have been relegated to the very back of an
unused shelf in the pantry or even moved out of the kitchen completely.

Why does a kitchen even need a blender in the first place? The reasons that
you need a blender for your kitchen will definitely surprise you.

Sleek and shining, blenders of the future have arrived and are showing up in
kitchens today. These machines are fast, quiet and amazingly versatile. From
creating the perfect dessert to making a high-tech protein shake, blenders are
becoming more than a kitchen convenience. They are helping to create a
healthier lifestyle in a world full of difficult food choices.

From the tiny "baby" blender versions to the ultra-modern Vita Mix; blenders
come in a huge variety of styles and offer plenty of options for both utility
functions and fun. Easier to use than those giant food mixers, a blender can
do almost anything from chopping dry ingredients to making ice cream. These
mighty machines of the kitchen come in fun colors and can even match your
kitchen decor.

Blending is not the only function that a blender can accomplish. Recipes that
call for mixing dry ingredients can be made simply and easily with the help of
a blender. Blending your baby's food from fresh ingredients or creating the
perfect breakfast shake can also be accomplished with a standard kitchen
blender.

Mixed drinks that contain crushed ice are impossible to make at home without
the use of a blender. What is more fun on a hot summer night than some
delicious daiquiris filled with fresh fruit and made in your own kitchen?

Blenders make it easy to add more fruit and vegetables to your diet. Replacing
one meal each day with a nutritious fruit smoothie is the perfect way to give
that diet a push.

Recipes for creamy soups and homemade ground wheat can also be made
easily with a good blender.

Salad dressings, gravies and yogurt smoothies are also simple to make once
you've added a blender to your kitchen.

A breakfast shake is a time-saving way to make sure that your family is
actually having a breakfast before work or school. Even those late night snacks
can be more nutritious when a blender is involved.

Instead of reaching for those potato chips, blend a banana and yogurt
smoothie to make a satisfying snack. Regardless of the uses you find for your
blender, every kitchen counter should have a little space for this versatile piece
of equipment.

Using a Blender to Make Nut Butters
Nut butters have become a popular food choice in recent times. Because of
their naturally high protein content, nut butters are an excellent replacement for
meat in a diet. Nut butter does contain a high amount of fat but the type of
fat is considered to be a healthy source for the human body.

Nut butters can be made from almost any type of nut including macadamia,
almond, cashew and even hazelnuts. Making your own nut butters at home is
an excellent way to add a delicious source of protein to your diet without the
high cost of processed nuts.

Making nut butters requires a bit of blender finesse. Because nuts are hard,
you will need to grind them in a way that is similar to chopping ice in the
blender. This means that variable speed option blenders are the perfect choice
for nut butter makers.

The best way to begin creating your own nut butter is by choosing the nuts
that you enjoy. Softer nuts are a good choice for first-time butter making
practice.

To make a delicious cashew nut butter you will begin by deciding whether or
not you want your cashews roasted.

To roast cashews, simply place them in a single layer on a baking pan.

Bake them in the oven for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove the cashews from the oven and let them cool. If you do not want
them roasted, just skip this step.

Pour two cups of cashews into your blender's carafe. Choose a low speed
option on the blender to begin chopping the nuts.

Slowly increase the speed until the nuts begin to turn to a fine powder. This
process takes several minutes and can make the blender hot, so be sure to
pause between speed changes.

Once the nuts begin to clump together in the carafe, you can add any
flavorings that you choose.

Honey, maple syrup and vanilla are all nut butter flavorings that add only a
small amount of calories to the mixture.

Cinnamon is another favorite when it comes to nut butter flavoring. A few
tablespoons of cinnamon will add a little spice to a bland nut butter.

Once your nut butter is completely blended, it will remain the consistency of
store-bought peanut butter. You can then jar your nut butter for storage or eat
it immediately. Nut butter will stay fresh for several weeks when stored in a jar
with a tight-fitting lid.

Remember that making nut butter can take practice. Allow the blender's motor
to cool between speed changes or you may end up over-heating the blender.
Once you try a few nut butter recipes, you will definitely appreciate the cost
savings.

Use your Blender to Make Alcoholic Drinks And Cocktails
Everyone knows that blenders are handy when it comes to making smoothies
and shakes. Delicious drink recipes are a mainstay when it comes to blender
handbooks. Adding a little alcohol to your blender drinks makes them the
perfect addition to a summer party or your holiday celebration.

Blender drinks can be icy libations or deliciously warm for the winter months.
Trendy new recipes include some of your favorite bar drinks along with new
creations made just for the more powerful blender styles.

Frozen Daiquiri

One of the top party drinks, especially during the summer, is the frozen
daiquiri. These luscious and chilly favorites come in styles that are sure to suit
any party-goer.

Begin with frozen fruit rather than ice and you have daiquiris that never get
that watered-down flavor. A great strawberry daiquiri recipe starts with fresh
frozen strawberries.

To create this drink take a pint of strawberries and remove the stems:

 Wash the strawberries thoroughly and place them in the freezer.
 Once they are completely frozen, put the berries in your blender.
 Add 1/4 of a cup of any flavored rum and 2 teaspoons of lime juice.
 Toss in 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and blend on a low speed.
 Finish the drink on a high speed to make it extra smooth and creamy.
 Pour the daiquiri into several cocktail glasses and your treat is ready for
       a party.

If you want to skip the high-calorie ice cream, you can create this same
daiquiri recipe using two cups of crushed ice. Remember that the ice does tend
to melt quickly so this option does not stay blended for long.

Substitute frozen bananas or any other type of berry and you can quickly
change the flavor of your daiquiri.

Cocktail Smoothie

For a twist on the typical frozen drink, try a cocktail smoothie. These recipes
are also simple and perfect for almost any type of blender.

 Add 1/2 of a cup of pineapple juice and two cups of mango slices to
       the blender carafe.
 A cup of vanilla yogurt and 1/2 of a cup of ice will make the drink
       creamy.
 Blend on high until all ingredients are mixed well and then add 1/4 of a
       cup of rum or vodka.

Either choice of alcohol creates a drink that gives the impression of a smoothie
with the added bonus of the liquor.

For alcoholic blender drinks, the classic recipes for daiquiris and smoothies are
always a party favorite. Blend your own eggnog during the holiday season and
make a scrumptious hot chocolate with a splash of rum. No matter what your
taste in beverages, a blender makes it simple to enjoy bar-quality alcoholic
drinks in your own home.

Use a Blender to Make Your Own Baby Food
Every parent wants the best for their new baby. The choices in the baby food
aisle at the grocery store can seem overwhelming. There is plenty of pressure
on parents to choose a healthy diet for their children but it is very difficult to
tell which baby food is actually healthy. Many canned or jarred foods are filled
with sodium and preservatives. The alternative to store-bought or jarred baby
food is making your own baby food at home. This option is much simpler than
you might imagine, especially with today's fantastic new blenders.

Safe and Fresh Food

Fresh fruits and vegetables are always recommended in any diet. This is very
important for babies, as well. Beginning a diet with fresh foods can lead to
healthy eating habits later in life. Your homemade baby food will not contain
additives or preservatives because you make it yourself. Being a new parent is
tough but making your own baby food is not.

Planning Ahead

Using your blender, you can make a whole week's worth of pureed foods in
one single morning. To begin, gather all of your fresh fruits and vegetables and
then wash them thoroughly. Start by steaming your vegetables until they are
soft. You can steam broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and even cabbage, depending
on what your baby enjoys.

Once steamed, add your vegetables to your blender and puree thoroughly.
Baked squash and sweet potato are also perfect for baby food once they have
been pureed. These foods can be stored for up to a week in the refrigerator.

Using Fruits

Fruits can also be pureed in the blender. Fresh fruit is perfect for a sweet treat
or a good desert for your baby. Ripe peaches and bananas are delicious when
blended. Remove the peel and drop the fruit right into the blender carafe. Once
the fruit is pureed, you can place it in jars for storage or serve it fresh.
Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are also delicious when pureed. You

will be surprised at how simple it is to make baby food that is both healthy
and tastes great.

Rice and Cereals

Cereals for babies can also be made in a blender. Grinding brown rice to a
powder and mixing it with formula or breast milk makes a nutritious cereal.
Cooked oatmeal and other grains are also easily blended with fruits to make
the best breakfast baby food.

Yogurts and Eggs

Yogurt and eggs are healthy additions to any puree once your baby is old
enough to have these items. Hard boil several eggs and add them to a
vegetable puree to increase the protein content of the food item. Yogurt and
fruit are wonderful together in a smoothie and the pairing is perfect for a
snack or even a meal. Making your own baby food saves money and creates a
healthy lifestyle for both you and your baby.

Types of Meals a Blender Could Be Used For
A blender is probably not the first kitchen appliance that you think of when it
comes to making a meal. Unsurprisingly, blenders are becoming more important
in the kitchen, especially with the added emphasis on fresh and healthy meals.
Using your blender to prepare an actual meal might seem like a bit of a
stretch but blender meals are simple and delicious.

Soups

Since most blender meals are blended or pureed, soups are a common option
for creating blender dishes. With a little practice, creating a creamy soup is as
easy as can be. In most soup recipes, you will be adding some sort of broth
or stock to the blender.

A low-fat and low-sodium chicken broth makes a perfect base for a healthy
soup. Choose your favorite vegetables and simmer or steam them until they are
soft. Once you have finished cooking the vegetables, simply place them in your
blender's carafe.

Add your chicken broth and puree until the mixture is creamy. Pour the entire
mixture over stir-fried chicken and noodles and you have a meal that is both
hearty and healthy.

Soups can be served warm or cold from your blender. Summer favorites like
cool cucumber soup or chilled pumpkin soup are also simple to create in a
blender.

Add fresh cucumber and cream of chicken soup to the blender's carafe. Toss
in some diced raw onion, sour cream and a little salt and pepper. Blend these
ingredients until they are very creamy, then pour the entire mixture into a bowl.

Place the bowl in the refrigerator and allow it to chill for about two hours.
Serve this soup garnished with a sprig of parsley and it looks like you have
worked hard on this meal!

Protein Shake

If soup is not your favorite meal, try a smoothie or a healthy protein shake for
a change of pace. Smoothies are the perfect addition to a day, especially when
your time is limited.

Peel a banana and place it in the blender carafe. Add some vanilla yogurt and
a few strawberries and you have a very healthy and delicious breakfast. If you
are craving a sweet treat, you can substitute vanilla ice cream for the yogurt
and have a scrumptious shake. A small amount of protein powder added to a
smoothie creates a balanced meal without the stove time!

Gravies and Sauces

Gravies and sauces are also simple to create in a blender. You can make the
perfect glaze for your chicken wings by dicing onions, tomatoes, garlic and
apricot preserves in your blender. Pour the mixture into a bowl and then baste
the wings.

Cook them in the oven and they look and taste delicious.

Blender meals are perfect for large families and by using fresh ingredients, you
can be assured that you are eating healthy foods.

The Basics of Keeping Your Blender Clean
With all of the emphasis placed on healthy eating these days, it seems that a
blender is once again an important part of every kitchen. From making delicious
and fresh fruit smoothies to blending healthy soups, the blender is one of
those tools that has become difficult to live without. Blender recipes are simple
but keeping your blender clean seems like a tough project. Because it is
important to remove all traces of food from the blender, cleaning your blender
correctly should be a priority.

Whether your blender carafe is glass or plastic, all of the cleaning steps are
the same. To make future cleanups a breeze, remember to rinse your blender
thoroughly every time you use it. This keeps the pitcher from becoming dingy
or cloudy with food residue.

The Process

To begin a deep cleaning, first make sure that your pitcher is mounted to the
base of the blender securely. You can then add two cups of hot water to the
pitcher. The hotter the water is, the better the cleaning will go.

Two or three drops of liquid dish soap can then be added to the pitcher, as
well. Turn the blender on for 30 seconds to loosen debris. Add a slice of
lemon to the pitcher and blend again for about 30 seconds.

The peel from the lemon is abrasive enough to loosen any stuck-on food. This
will clear the blades and bottom section of the blender. Remove the pitcher
from the base of the blender and rinse thoroughly with clean water. You can
then place the pitcher on your drying rack to air-dry.

If your blender must be disassembled for a cleaning, you may be able to place
both the pitcher and the blade section in your dishwasher. Remember that the
base of the blender should never be placed in water or inside a dishwasher!

Cleaning the blades with white vinegar and a toothbrush will make them sparkle
but you will need to be careful to avoid cutting yourself. Those blades are
sharp!

Keeping the Routine

The most important part of keeping your blender clean is routine maintenance.
Rinsing your pitcher thoroughly with hot water after each use will keep the
glass or plastic from clouding.

The Power of Vinegar

White vinegar is also great for this purpose. Instead of water and soap, you
might also try a mixture of water and vinegar for a deep cleaning.

Add two cups of hot water and half a cup of white vinegar to the blender.
Blend for about 30 seconds on a high setting.

Vinegar is excellent as a cleaning agent for both glass and plastic pitchers.
Rinse well when you complete the blend.

These simple steps with keep your blender looking new for many years.
