DHCP Setup
From the Control Panel double click the Add/Remove Programs applet.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Double Click Networking Services.
Check the box by Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. (DHCP)
Click OK.
Click Next.
Click Finish.
Close all open Windows.
Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, DHCP.
This will open the DHCP MMC console.
Right click DHCP from the left window, and choose Add Server.
Click Browse and select the server from the provided list.
Click ok twice to add the server in the DHCP console.
Right click on the DHCP server in the left window, and select New Scope.
Click next, and enter the desired name and description for the new scope.
Click next. Add the Beginning Range and the Ending Range of the scope. As you are
entering an IP range, notice that the subnet mask is calculated as you are typing.
Click next. If you have any exclusions in your address leasing then add them here in the
beginning and ending address field. Click add to make the exclusion.
Click next, and adjust the lease time as desired. I recommend 3 days.
Click next. Choose “Yes I want to configure these options now.” This will give you the
ability to enter router information, DNS information, and any WINS information.
Click next, and enter the router IP number in the given field. Click Add to commit this
entry.
Click next. This will progress you to the DNS entry information. If this server is the
Child of a Parent Domain, then enter that information in the Parent Domain box. In the
Server Name field, enter the name of the Local DNS server of your Active Directory.
Click resolve, and the IP number of that server will show in the DNS number field to the
right. Click Add to confirm the DNS IP address.
Click next. Duplicate the process from the DNS configuration to complete the WINS
setup.
Click next. I recommend selecting “No, I will activate the scope later.” This gives you
the ability to double check your entries, and activate the scope manually.
Click next, and then click finish. This will show the new scope in the left window.
