Learning about the sharemarket gets easier for school kids
Financial literacy has become a major contemporary priority as has been highlighted in recent
times by all sides of politics.

As part of this renewed emphasis on financial literacy, the Australian Stock Exchange
introduced an on-line toolkit for teachers to assist in sharemarket education.

The resource complements the highly popular ASX Schools Sharemarket Game and includes
ready to print lessons on the sharemarket, a guide to using the ASX website in the classroom,
as well as a section on teacher professional development.

ASX has been running a sharemarket game for schools for over 20 years and 2003 saw 75,000
students participate from over half of Australia’s secondary schools.

Tony Hunter, ASX National Manager of Investor Education, said; “Our schools sharemarket
game is very popular with school students and their teachers. We believe it is a great practical
way to learn about share investing. These new resources should assist teachers make the game
even more useful for students.’

Registrations close for the current Game on 9 March 2004.
