Genetic Manipulation
The Genetic Modifiaction Safety Officer for the UCLCI is Mrs sonia Buckingham, who can be contacted for advice regarding completion of notification forms; risk assessments and general advice for working with genetically modified organisms. Additional guidance can be found on the UCL website http://www.ucl.ac.uk/efd/safety_services_www/guidance/gm/index.htm. Work performed within the Institute should conform to the Genetically Modified Organisms (Contained Use) Regulations 2000 and the subsequent amendments and the UCL Local Rules for Genetic Modification, copies of which are available from Sonia Buckingham. A project risk assessment and notification form for work with genetically modified organisms form must be completed in advance for all proposed work. Forms can be located at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/wibr/intranet/safety/form-downloads/index.htm. These must be given to the GMSO and reviewed annually or if any changes to the protocol occur. New GM projects are sent to the UCL GM safety committee for discussion and approval.
