Responses in Pakistan” Arif Hasan
Arif Hasan is a leading international figure in housing and urban development. Since 1982
he has been Principal Consultant to the Orangi Pilo Project (OPP) and is currently
Chairman of Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) Research and Training Institute in Karachi
Pakistan. From 1979 to 1989 he conducted the Comprehensive Environmental Design
Project at the Department of Architecture and Planning at Dawood College, Karachi, where
he still teaches. He has received numerous awards (for example, International Year for
Shelter Memorial Award, 1990, from the Japanese government) and is member of the
Board of a number of international and Asian-based organisations. He writes regularly for
Pakistan and international journals, and has been a keynote speaker at conferences both
at home and abroad.
