11 TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA,
12 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-6-431 SO AS TO PROVIDE
13 FOR FUNDING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COSTS
14 AT THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACADEMY FROM THE
15 SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATION LOTTERY ACCOUNT
16 AND TO PROVIDE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.

18 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
19 Carolina:

21 SECTION 1. Article 9, Chapter 6, Title 23 of the 1976 Code is
22 amended by adding:

24 “Section 23-6-431. (A) A person who attends the central law
25 enforcement training facility, known as the Criminal Justice
26 Academy, as provided in Section 23-6-410 for mandatory law
27 enforcement training and who meets the requirements of this
28 section, shall have full tuition and other costs of his training paid to
29 the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of
30 Training and Continuing Education, from the South Carolina
31 Education Lottery Account.
32 (B) To qualify, a person must be:
33 (1) the recipient of a minimum of six college credits through
34 an articulation agreement between an accredited institution of
35 higher learning and the Criminal Justice Academy for the basic
36 training he received;
37 (2) a law enforcement officer as provided by Section
38 23-6-430 or a person who has been hired by a governmental entity
39 or public law enforcement agency, and who successfully has
40 completed his training requirements and received certification as
41 provided in Section 23-6-450 and appropriate regulations; and

1 (3) the guarantor of repayment of the advanced tuition and
2 costs to the South Carolina Education Lottery if he fails to remain
3 with the hiring agency for at least two years after completion of the
4 law enforcement training at the Criminal Justice Academy.”

6 SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
