Admissions Re uirements to Adel hi Universi Pro am:
Admission to the School of Nursing requires a minimum overall G.P.A. of 3.0. Applicants are also required
to have a grade ofC+ or better in all science courses. Students wbo do not have a minimum grade ofC+ or
better in the sciences will be considered for admission after meeting with the Director of the RN program.

Adelphi's Nursing program requires Statistics (MTH 113 Survey of Statistics al AU, MA 23 Statistics I at
SCCC) and Chemistry I and II(CHE 107 Essentials ofChemistry I and CHE10S Essentials of Chemistry 11
at Adelphi, CH 19 General Chern, CH 21lntro to Organic & Bio Chern, CH 29 Foundations of College
Chern, CH 45 Principles of Organic and Bio Chem at SCCC) These courses may be taken at Adelphi or,
they may be taken at Suffolk, either prior to or after graduation from Suffolk Community College.
However, courses taken at Suffolk must be completed prior to enrollment at Adelphi.

In addition, students may enter the Suffolk/Adelphi joint admission program where upon admission to
Suffolk's nursing program also guarantees admission to Adelphi's B.s. program, if students have:
     •    Successfully completed Suffolk's AAS in nursing;
     •    Have earned a minimum GPA on.o.

This joint admission option ceases to exist one year from the date of graduation from Suffolk County

Community College.


  Students who complete the A.A. or A.S. degree at Suffolk Community College are exempt from taking
  Adelphi University's General Education Distribution Requirement. Students wbo do not receive the A.A.
  or A.S. degree at Suffolk Community College will be responsible for Adelphi University's General
. Education requirements either with appropriate transfer credits from Suffolk Community College and/or
  courses taken at Adelphi University.

Adelphi's General Education requirements are attached and may be viewed at www.adeiphLedu.To
determine bow Suffolk Community College courses may satisfy Adelphi University's General Education
requirements students sbould go to www.adelobi.edu for the Suffolk-Adelphi COUIlle equivalencies.

Scholarships range from $3,000 to $S,OOO plus, based on cumulative G.P .A.. The minimum G.P.A.
required for scho1arship is a 3.0. Need-based financial aid is also available to those who qualify. Priority
filing date for FAFSA is February 15 for fall applicants and October 15 for spring applicants.


Total transfer credits granted toward the baccalaureate degree: 55.5-565

IfChemistry I and 11, and Statistics are taken at Suffolk, the total transfer credits will be 63.5.

Total Additional credits required at Adelphi University to complete baccalaureate degree: 60.5-6S.5

Transfer Students with fewer than 30 credits
These students must satisfy all the requirements. Transfer credits can be used to satisfy General Education
requirements.

Transfer Students with 30-59 credits
These students are exempt from the Freshman Seminar and Freshman Orientation Experience. They must satisfy all
the other requirements. Transfer credits can be used to satisfy General Education requirements.

Transfer Students with 60 credits but without an Associates degree in Arts (A.A.), Associates degree in
Science (A.S.) or Bachelors Degree
These students are exempt from the Freshman Seminar, Freshman Orientation Experience, and the Second
Competency. They must meet the Social Sciences and Math/Science Distribution requirements. They may meet the
Arts and Humanities distribution requirements by taking a total of 12 credits in those two areas; it can be all Arts or
all Humanities or some of each.

To fulfill the 34-credit General Education requirement, students may choose from a wide range of courses. This
gives them opportunities to pursue areas of interest in depth and to complete second majors or minors. Many courses
in the General Education sequence also satisfy requirements in the areas of specialization selected by students.

ENG 107 The Art and Craft of Writing (first competency course)


Students are required to complete a second competency course to acquire additional skills necessary throughout and
after college. This requirement can be satisfied by successfully completing ENG 108, ENG 110, a foreign language
(level 121 or higher), or one of the following courses;
CSC 170 Introduction to Computers and Their Applications
ESL III     English As a Second Language I
ESL 112 English As a Second Language II
MTH 113 Survey of Statistics
MTH 114 Statistics for Natural Sciences
PHI 105     Critical Thinking Skills
SPE 110     Speaking in a Small Group

Distrihution Courses

Students are required to complete at least six credits in each of the following areas; (specific courses in
interdisciplinary programs such as Environmental Studies or African-American Ethnic Studies will be allocated to
one of the four distribution categories);

    o	    Arts (6 credits)

          Art, Art History, Communications, Performing Arts, and Music

    o	    Humanities and Languages (6 credits)

          Englisb, History, Philosophy and Foreign Languages

    o	    Natural Sciences and Mathematics (6 credits)

          Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics

    o	    Social Sciences (6 credits)

          Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and International Studies
