Data Collection for Car Exhaust Exposure
Table 1. Methods Day-By-Day
Day of Experiment Date What was done? And any weird occurrences.
1 (3pm) 10/6/10, Wed Seeds were planted.
2 (9am) 10/7/10, Thurs No occurances.
3 (9am) 10/8/10, Fri Seedlings began to sprout; plants watered
4 (11am) 10/9/10, Sat Sprouts measured, no water needed, reservoir full.
Sprouts measured, no water needed, reservoir full. While taking the
plants out on a tray for car exhaust exposure (6pm), I dropped groups B,
cup 2 (B2) and C, cup 1 (C1) off the tray accidently. Group B2 looks
pretty bad, 2 out of 5 sprout stems are broken. The other group, C1,
looks ok. I rearranged the soil around the sprouts taking care not to
5 (11am, 6pm) 10/10/10, Sun compress the soil.
Sprouts measured, no water needed. During exposure time, I had the
plants on a tray carrying them out to the car. I set the tray on the ground
to shut the door behind me and turned around and stepped on the tray.
The plants went flying and sprouts and soil spilled out. I tried to
transplant the seedlings into the correct containers as best as I could,
however, a few of them may have been mixed up. Groups B1, B2, and C2
were most effected. I had to refill the water reservoirs for most the
6 (10am, 5pm) 10/11/10, Mon containers because the water spilled out.
Sprouts measured: no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
7 (12pm, 5:30pm) 10/12/10, Tues prescibed times.
Sprouts measured: no water needed. Mold is growing on the surface of
Group A1, A2, D1, and D2. Plants exposed to car exhaust for prescibed
8 (10am, 6pm) 10/13/10, Wed times.
Plants measured, no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
9 (9am, 6pm) 10/14/10, Thurs prescibed times.
Plants measured, no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
10 (12pm, 6pm) 10/15/10, Fri prescibed times.
Plants measured, water needed (on top of soil) to try to help mold
11 (12pm, 6pm) 10/16/10, Sat problem. Plants exposed to car exhaust for prescibed times.
Plants measured, no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
12 (12pm, 6pm) 10/17/10, Sun prescibed times.
Plants measured and water reservoir refilled. Plants exposed to car
13 (12pm, 6pm) 10/18/10, Mon exhaust for prescibed times. Mold problem is taken care of.
Plants measured, no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
14 (9am, 6pm) 10/19/10, Tues prescibed times.
Plants measured, no water needed. Plants exposed to car exhaust for
15 (10am) 10/20/10, Wed prescibed times.

Inference
Cannot yet determine how many sprouts per cup.
I do not believe there will be anymore sprouts surfacing. I
believe this will be the final number.
Not enough time in experimentation (other possible reasons?)
Inference
Cannot yet determine how many sprouts per cup.
I do not believe there will be anymore sprouts surfacing. I
believe this will be the final number.
Too late to include with other plants, will skew results.
The plant with the wilted leaves was not affected by the fall,
therefore, I have to assume it is due to the car exhaust
exposure.
Inference
Cannot yet determine how many sprouts per cup.
I do not believe there will be anymore sprouts surfacing. I
believe this will be the final number.
The plant's roots had not taken good enough hold again and it
was pulled from the soil just by gently stretching it during
measurement. The wilted leaves on the 2 plants are still
growing. Therefore, I am assuming it is due to the car exhaust
exposure and and the fall.
