What is an au pair?
Part of the family
Provides up to 45 hours childcare per week
– not more than 5 ½ days a week or 10 hours a day
Child related duties only
Study up to 3 hours a week
Earn $139/$200 a week
Receive a J-1 visa
Stay LEGALLY in the USA
Be aged 18-26 years old
Have 200 hours of recent practical childcare
Speak English to a good standard
Hold a valid driving licence
Have completed high school
No criminal record
Be able to commit to 12 months abroad

What happens next!
Your application will be circulated amongst families, whose needs and
interests best match your experience.
Families will call you for a telephone interview.
Once a match is made - placement information and visa papers are
sent and flight arrangements are made for you.
You will have an interview at the US Embassy for your J1 visa.
You will fly from South Africa to New York City and attend a 4 day
You will then fly/drive/train from New York to your host family.
Your counsellor will make contact within the first 48 hours.
