The word fibromyalgia comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro-) and the Greek ones

for muscle (-myo-) and pain (-algia). It is also known as fibrositis.



What is Fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that starts with chronic pain, stiffness and

pain in muscles, tendons and joints without inflammation that can be seen or felt. However,

extreme fatigue and sleep disturbanc is largely the effect experienced by patients

with fibromyalgia.



Fibromyalgia is a conditionrelated to arthritis, but this is not a form of arthritis (joint disease)

because it does not cause inflammation in the joints, muscles or other

tissues ordamage. however, fibromyalgia can cause excessive pain and fatigue and can also

interfere with a person's ability to live their daily activities.



Irritable bowel syndrome may occur to fibromyalgia. Other effects of fibromyalgia can

becharacterized from headaches, painful menstrual periods, numbness or tingling in

theextremities, restless legs, temperature sensitivity and cognitive and memory problems.



Fibromyalgia is not easy to diagnose because the symptoms resemble many other diseases, there

is no laboratory test that can detect fibromyalgia. Diagnosis of fibromyalgia is a clinical

diagnosis. It is based on a history of chronic pain that lasts morethan 3 months occurred in 11 to

18 point. Fibromyalgia has been recognized as a diagnosable disorder by the National Institutes

of Health and the American College of Rheumatology.The most effective treatment is to

combine the knowledge, stress reduction, exercise and medication. Physicians, physical

therapists and patients play an active role in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Research shows such

as swimming and aerobics jogging improve muscle fitness and reduces muscle aches and

pains.(what is fibromyalgia) Heat and massage may also help in the short term. Fibromyalgia

patients would be very helpful from the exercise, medications, physical therapy and relaxation.

Not all people in fibromyalgia experience all associated symptoms. Fibromyalgia is estimated to

affect 2-4% of the population, with a female to male incidence ratio of approximaley 9:1. (what
