Mastering Eloquence, Inspiring Leadership - resonance 2011
The first ever District 41 semi annual conference, resonance 2011 concluded on Sunday November 20, 2011 @ the
Corinthians Boutique Club at Pune. Though this was the first time an event of such magnitude was organised in Pune.
The Conference Chair Sabari Girish and the LGM – Prasad Sovani along with their team delivered what they
promised. In spite of being a first time event, there were very few gaps, which indicated the due diligence and attention
to details that made this event memorable for us.
About 330 participants from all over District 41 and a few friends from District 82 including a delegation from Sri Lanka
attended the conference.
The biggest delegation was from Hyderabad with a massive 58 member team. Area D3 had a participation of about 15
members. Teams from Bombay Toastmasters, General Mills Toastmaster Club, TCS Maitree and Mahindra
Toastmasters Club had a great time at resonance 2011.
The Division team was represented by Phalgunan Kumaran, Asst. Div Gov – E&T and presented the report on behalf
of the Division D Governor, Adit Paul. Arvind Nair – Area D4 Governor and yours truly completed the team. Area
Secretary - Nirmala Menon, Presidents – Suneel Agarwal, Chandrashekhar Kumar, Anurag Sinha were some of the
enthusiastic delegates from Area D3. I met Jagrut Vaishnav, the man who helped in coordinating with the Ahmadabad
Toastmasters Club - hopefully we would see the club getting chartered this month!
The first day was full of learning with eminent speakers rolling out wonderful educational sessions. The cherry on the
cake was “World Champion Public Speaking -2000” Ed Tate’s session.
The highlight of the conference was the Humorous Speech and Speech Evaluation contest wherein 7 contestants from 7
Divisions fought for the crown. Day two began with an inspiring talk by Lila Poonawala who made us realise the
importance of “Self Motivation”… Her sincerity and commitment towards the cause were evident and each one of us was
touched by her passion. She made us all believe that “Nothing is impossible”… if we have a positive attitude.
Immediately after this session we had District 82’s WCPS Semi Finalist, Aaron Watson who spoke on 10
commandments of Public speaking .
The Chief Judge – Venkata Dittakavi ensured a fair contest. The Contest Chair Deepa Das along with the Contest
Master Chandana Erande ensured that the Speech Evaluation Session went off smoothly. Sanchit Agarwal from Delhi
was the target speaker spoke on “The Forgotten Perspective”, his dilemma over rituals and religion. Bells rang as 7
evaluators turn by turn provided critique of the speech.
Contest Master Abdul Rahim took us all to a journey filled with laughter with the Humorous Speech contest. The best
from 7 divisions across District 41 delivered electrifying and rib tickling speeches. By the end of the contest most of us
were full with laughter J
The concluding part of the session was recognition of the team that gave us resonance 2011. The District Governor Punita
Singh handed over the charter kit for the General Mills Toastmasters Club, Baroda Impact Toastmasters Club & Mumbai
Impact Toastmasters Club to yours truly.
The results were as follows:
Speech Evaluation Contest:
Winner – Brati Shankar Ghosh from Division G
1st Runner up – Arpita Verma from Division C
2nd Runner up – Vikram Poddar from Division D
Humorous Speech Contest:
Winner – Vikram Poddar from Division D
1st Runner up – Shashank Bhavaraju from Division F
2nd Runner up – Varun Kotwal from Division G
Division D had many reasons to be proud of:
We had about 80% retention in membership
We had the maximum no of clubs chartered in District 41 till date
In particular Area D3 had a BIG reason to be proud – 3 of the 5 newly chartered clubs were family J
And we had a first time winner of the Humorous Speech contest from Division D.
On behalf of the Area D3 team, I congratulate Vikram for his outstanding performance and emerging the winner. I also
take this opportunity to congratulate all the organising committee members for putting up a fantastic show. You may
write to Vikram Poddar winner of the Humorous Speech Contest and to Sabari Girish - Conference Chair for making
the event a grand success.
The next event is the first Annual Conference “Oration 2012” that would be held at Hilton, Nehru Place, Delhi from
May 18 to 20, 2012. Hope to see a large contingent from Area D3. Rush and register now…
That’s all from me for now… as I sign off I request you to focus on educational goals and help your club achieve the most
desired Presidents Distinguished Club status.
