					         INSTITUTE OF AFRICAN AMERICAN RESEARCH (IAAR):

                                Course Development Grant
                    Application Deadline: Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 5 p.m.

Purpose:
To support the development of new courses that focus on African American studies broadly
defined or the African diaspora.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill holding a
faculty rank (tenure, tenure-track, adjunct, research or clinical rank, lecturers, or instructors) OR
professional librarians in the analogous librarian ranks.

Available Funding:
The IAAR provides a maximum of $2,500.

Proposals:
Funds will be provided for the development of new courses for the development of new courses
to be taught in the 2012-2013 academic year. The THREE (3)-page proposal should:

        Specify the department and course number for the proposed course and the semester
         in which it would be taught;
        Explain the primary focus of the course and its main pedagogical goal(s);
        Indicate some of the intended course material;
        Indicate the kinds of assignments student would be expected to complete.

3. Academic and Research Experience. Attach a brief C.V. or biographical sketch, including relevant publications,
not to exceed three pages total. Biographical sketches already prepared on forms from extramural sponsors (e.g.,
NIH or NSF) are welcome, as long as they do not exceed three pages. Proposals exceeding this three-page limit will
not be considered.

4. Description of Proposed Course: Briefly describe your proposed course, including its primary focus and its main
pedagogical goal(s), indicate some of the intended course material and the kinds of assignments student would be
expected to complete. You may use the rest of this page and all of page two and three. PLEASE DO NOT EXCEED
THESE SPACE LIMITATIONS, and do not use a font size smaller than 10 points.
