 At the Ministerial meeting held at Nicholas Chapel it was decided to hold the next Ministerial meeting at

 John Jones, our United States mail carrier, is dealing in furs of all kinds. He says house-cat hides are in special
demand.
 The Third meeting of the Scopus debating society was held at Mr. Barks's on last Wednesday night, and was
attended by a large audience. The next meeting will be held at Jonas Barks's Friday night. November 21, when
the following question will be discussed: "Resolved. That a man will go farther for the love of money, than for
the love of woman." The following persons will discuss the subject: Affirmative, A.J. Lincoln and Riley
Hahn. Negative, Rev. I.W. Jones and J.G. Scott. Everyone invited.

 Doc. Tallent and family of near Burfordville visited the home of Mr. Tallent's brother, Henry, last Sunday.
 Jones Brothers returned home from Cape Girardeau last Wendnesday, where they have been employed.
 The next meeting of the Scopus Debating Society will be held at the residence of Henry Tallent Saturday
night, December 6. The question to be discussed is: "Resolved, that the negroes received worse treatment from
the whites than the Indians." The question will be discussed by the following parties: Affirmative, Cleveland
Chostner, Riley Hahn, H.A. Tallent, M.D. Hahn, E. Connor and Rev. I.W. Jones. Negative, Will Nanney, J.G.
Scott, A.J. Lincoln, J.S. Cole and Lee Dockins.

 J.B. Chandler, our tonsorial artist, cuts and hauls bolts week days and runs his barber shop Sundays with the
help of his assistant H.A. Tallent.
 Our debating society has disbanded all on account of some pesky boys. They can't get a building to debate
in. We think the conduct of some of our boys and young men shameful. It will soon be so that a lady won't
attend a party. Shame boys!

 Those who enjoyed a surprise party at the home of Mrs. Vandergrift Wednesday night were Miss. Annie
Hutson, chaperone, Misses Dorothy Charles, Norma Tirmerstein, Clyde Brasher, Jattie Jenkins, Tudie Adams
and Miss Brackey, of Texas; Messrs. Howard Kennedy, Will Hunter, Sam Brasher, Morrell DeReign, Rollin
Brasher, Chester McPheeters and Wade Norrid. All report plenty of cider and a nice walk home.

BURFURDVILLE ITEMS; Items of interest from the Thriving Little City on Whitewater.
 The big lawsuit of Fred Jones vs. Barn Stroder that was to be here last Saturday was put off till May 16th. The
lawsuit is over a mare that Mr. Stroder sold to Mr. Jones for $200. It seems that the dispute is over the working
of the mare. Stroder claims that she will work while Jones claims that she (page cut off)
Note: I looked for a follow up article on this, but was unable to find any.
