Club Annual Report 08/09
“The club annual report should summarise important things that have happened in your
club this year. This includes for instance, an overall summary, any constitution changes,
the club's main activities during the year, membership totals, financial activities (what
you spend money on mostly, where you get most of your money from, are you
richer/poorer than last year etc), your proposed plans for next year and maybe your
committee info (this year and next year).” (Directly taken from OSC Chair e-mail)
Main activities carried out up to date:
- Fresher’s Fair: free food to attract members to sign up to the mailing list, poster
displaying annual planned activities.
- Music and Wine: Social party at the Union with cheese and wine being the
main attraction. Event organized to attract members (free for members),
managed to get approx 60+ ppl signed up to the society plus more members
signed up online.
- Bar Night: Bar night organised at the Union Bar offering cheap drink to
members (beer), managed to cover expenses but the event was not a huge
success.
- Christmas Party: Major event up to date. Organized alongside the French
Societies of UCL, Kings College and LSE at Boujis in South Ken. Organized
through a promoting company called SHAKE LTD. Cost of the event 1000 per
soc, covered cost and obtained profit. The event was a huge success looking at
figures and from the feedback obtained from members.
- Subscription to mediateque: The French Soc affiliated to the Mediateque at the
Lycee Francaise at South Kensington. Special price agreed of 50 pounds. This
allows all members of the society to access the library and to take out any
material such as books, music, etc.
- Café Philo: Event intended for non-french natives to practise their spoken skills
with French natives over a cup of coffee. Event was successful.
- OSC football tournament: two teams were signed up to the tournament. The
cost was covered by the 15 pounds grant from the union and the rest taken out of
the SGI
General Comments and Observations:
All the events have been carried out with SGI money, except for the football tournament
which was partly paid with grant money.
At the beginning of the academic year the balance of the French Soc was 288 pounds,
currently we are looking at 473 pounds of SGI approx.
Last year 97 members were raised, this year we currently have 112 members signed up
(plus two other) out of a predicted 40 by last years committee.
The membership was not raised from last year, it is still 4 pounds
Problems:
- Regarding the Christmas Party. A cheque was issued by the OSC for the
promoting company with the VAT Invoice submitted, with the total minus VAT.
On the Union transaction page, the amount stated in red has had the VAT
deducted twice. Therefore the money that appears in the SGI section does not
correspond to the real amount.
- Not enough Grant from Union. Money needed to cover the cost of the poster for
Fresher´s Fair, to enter two teams to the OSC football tornament (previous year
entry fee 15 pounds raised to 18 this year, only had 15 pounds grant), affiliation
fee money for the Mediateque, money for plates and cups at the important Wine
and Music event. Paying not necessarily social events with SGI money.
Future events:
- Another Café Philo
- Tour to Paris
- Elections for next years committee
