Exercise 1: Definition of “raw materials” for RT product
development

  Description:
  This exercise is to define following cathegories of RT „raw
  materials“ and their characteristics:
   Attractivities
   Amenities
   Accessible facilities
   Activities
   Accessible services

  Objectives:
  A definition of above mentioned “raw materials” shall be drawn
  and its content shall be described.

  Materials:
  Flipchart, markers

  Steps:
  1. The working group draws up a list of characteristics for each
  cathegory of RT “raw materials”
  2. The working group draws up a definition of each RT “raw
  material”

  The participants must identify as many characteristics and
  arrange them on the flipchart as truthfully as possible.

  Supporting questions for the trainer during the group work:
  1. What contains the group: atractiveness? What shall be
  considered?
  2. What contains the group: amenities? What shall be considered?
  3. What contains the group: activities? What shall be considered?

  Description:
  Description of different standards in accommodation, different
  food possibilities, different activities suitable for RT, necessary
  facilities in RT, desired services in RT

  Objectives:
  To describe various forms of defined “raw materials” in RT
  product development, considering all trends in this sector

  Materials:
  Flipchart, markers

  Steps:
  1. The working group draws up a various forms of particular
     cathegory of tourism “raw materials”
  2. The working group discuss these forms and their suitability for
     Rural tourism

  The participants must identify as many forms and arrange them on
  the flipchart as truthfully as possible.

  Supporting questions for the trainer during the group work:
  1. What are various forms of attractiveness? What shall be
     considered?
  2. What are various forms of amenities? What shall be
  considered?
  3. What are various forms of activities? What shall be
  considered?

Exercise 3: RT product development – the role of people

Description:
This exercise is to define various key social and human factors
for RT product development and discuss them in the groups

Objectives:
Define key factors of successfull leadership in RT product
development and discuss them in the group

Materials:
Flipchart, markers, stickers

Steps:
1. The working group discuss social and human factors for rural
   tourism development
2. The working group draws up a social map of rural tourism
   development

The participants must identify as many key social and human
factors and arrange them on the flipchart in the form of
hierarchical social map as truthfully as possible.

Supporting questions for the trainer during the group work:
1. What key social factors are important for RT product
   development?
2. What kind of leadership is desired?
3. What is the role of education and training?
4. What is the role of broader capacity building?
5. Are groups, institutions, associations important?
6. Networking opportunity?
7. Managerial skills – are they important?

Exercise 4: How to make a market research in RT?

  Description:
  Description of best places, tools and intruments in market
  research for rural tourism.

  Objectives:
  To describe and analyse places, tools and instruments in RT
  marker research.

  Materials:
  Flipchart, markers

  Steps:
  1. The working group discusses where to carry on market
     research and which tools and instruments are best to be used.
  2. The results are agreed within the group and placed on the
     flipchart paper.

  The participants must identify places, tools and instrumemnts for
  an effective market reaserch in RT product development.

  Supporting questions for the trainer during the group work:
  1. Where to make market reaserch in RT
  2. Who to ask?
  3. What tools and instruments are the most effective?
  4. What kind of questions shall be asked?

Exercise 5: Marketing MIX

  Description:
  Group discussion on marketing strategy:
  - Product: based on raw materials exercise
  - Place: place the product on the market
  - Price: calculate the price for the product
  - Promotion: propose promotion channels
  - Performance: discuss the key product performance aspects

  Objectives:
  Learn about various elements of marketing MIX in RT product
  developemnt and how to design it the best ways in order to reach
  the most effective marketing strategy.

  Materials:
  Flipchart, markers

  Steps:
  1. The working sets up cathegories of marketing MIX
  2. The group discuss these cathegories for RT product
     development
  3. The Groups design the best marketing strategy for RT
  product development

  Supporting questions for the trainer during the group work:
  1. What are products which RT customers look for?
  2. What is the best place for selling? Where are our customers?
  3. What is the best price strategy? What is important to
     consider?
  4. What would be the best promotion tools and how the promotion
     strategy shall looks like?
  5. What shall the performance looks like in order to be
     successful?

Exercise 6: The questionnaire for the territory

Description:
Designing the questionnaire for the people from the territory
enabling to find out about:
 Development patterns
 RT „raw materials“
 Leadership and management patterns



Objectives:
To design the quirestionnaire to be used in practical research to
cerried out wiuth the people in the Krupina region, reflecting
development patterns, RT “raw materials”, and leadership and
management patterns.

Materials:
Computer, paper

Steps:
1. The group draws up a questionnaire reflecting all above
   mentioned points
2. The group use the questionnaire in individual interviews with
local people in Krupina region.

  Exercise 7: SWOT analysis

Objective:
The aim of this exercise is to perform a simple SWOT analysis at
level of the SR in the field of rural toursim development. The
analysis will serve as the tool to look at the situation in the country
and will be discussed in the group.

Documents and material:
The preliminary prepared table with SWOT analysis according to the
example, flipchart, markers

Steps:
  1. The audit/analysis of the sources is presented by the group in
     an appropriate format (e.g. in MS PowerPoint)
  2. Than the group discusses the contemporary strengths and
     weaknesses of the SR in rural tourim development and writes
     down the answers for different areas of public life in the
     prepared table according to Example
  3. After that the group discusses the opportunities and
     impediments for development and writes it down in the same
     manner in the prepared table according to the example

Questions
What do you like today about tourism development in SR?
Has country strenghts for that?
What you don’t like about it?
What are country´s weaknesses in rural tourism?
What could be in the future an opportunity for RT development in
SR?
What could be in the future an impediment for RT development in
SR?

Example of a simple SWOT analysis and questions, which should
be posed for mobilisation of the population.
