Jene Randolph O’Blennis is a 1968 Fontbonne University Graduate. Born deaf,
Jene entered St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (SJID) at age 3, and her years at SJID
allowed her to gain verbal capabilities, an achievement difficult to attain at that
time. She graduated from Mexico Senior High School in 1964 and then enrolled at
     Fontbonne.
She currently serves on the board of directors for SJID. In addition, she volunteers
in the school library and has often served as chair of the annual dinner and auction,
the school’s largest fundraiser. She’s also active with the alumni association.
Approximately 12 years ago, O’Blennis had a cochlear implant, allowing her
to hear. The rehabilitation was difficult, but she uses her experience to help both
adults and children undergoing the surgery and rehabilitation.
O’Blennis is active with the Ephpheta Society, caring for deaf children who circa 1928
