IS YOUR
LIGHT SHINING?
Elisha was an Old Testament man of God, chosen and appointed by God to replace His servant Elijah—when his
time of service was finished. After his appointment was finalized, this Elisha formed the habit of passing through
some neighbors without saying a word, to anyone. One individual, however, took notice of his mannerisms and
carriage, or, deportment after watching him pass repeatedly through her community—without opening his mouth.
“Clearly, he is not like everyone else”, she thought and later confided to her husband. Until that time, no one in that
area knew that Elisha was a prophet of God.
You say openly that you are a Christian. You say you believe in God! When people see you, can they see that there
is something different, that perhaps your life matters or stands for something other than daily living, as they know
it? Or, does your mouth, your conversation, your habits and associations cover, like a pail, any profession of faith
you make, so that nothing Christian is ever forthcoming; there is no light in your life that points them to Life in
Jesus Christ (until trouble strikes!)?
A candle sat upon a hill, Jesus said, “cannot” be hidden! No one knew Elisha’s occupation, but, they saw plainly
that he was not like everyone else. His light was always on. The Shunamite woman saw that light and knew that
this man’s life stood for and mattered for something of a God-ward sort—although she had never heard his voice.
Is you light shining? In these dark times, when the Hand of Almighty God is about to fall in judgment, first upon
these United States of America and its wayward, theologically backward, spiritually challenged and bankrupt,
Spirit-less churches, what does your life say to the world around you? What message are you communicating to the
lost, some of whom are seeking and groping for answers?
