Rally Cross is a timed rally-based motorsport competition designed to test the skill and consistency of
the driver on a gravel slalom course. All runs count towards the total time, which is determined by
adding up the times for each run. Runs not completed for any reason are assigned a time corresponding
to the overall greatest time in that configuration. Anyone entering an event will be registered for the
series. For regulations, refer to CARS National Rallysprint Regulations 1.0 Rally Cross at
www.carsrally.ca

Course - Red cones & directional arrows will define each course, which will be run a minimum of three
times and which are designed to test a driver’s skill. There will be one competitor vehicle on course at a
time, a countdown start, and a flying finish. Course marshals will have flags, fire extinguishers and
radios; and will be in contact with Rally Control at all times. Rally Control, starter, and course workers
will be placed so as to have a view of the full course at all times. The nearest hospital is 34 km away in
Nanaimo via paved public road. The nearest ambulance station is 5.6 km away. A qualified first aid
attendant will be on site during competition hours. Everyone will be expected to help work the event.
Depending on entry numbers, we might break into two groups, entrants and workers. Those sharing a
car would be in ‘opposite’ groups. During wet weather, or if the start area becomes too rutted, 2WD
vehicles may be given a one car length start handicap before timing is started (at the discretion of the
organizer). We will experiment slightly with the order in which entrants compete. We will be starting
nd
each entrant for two consecutive runs: you run, finish and immediately continue to a 2 run. Course
configuration is changed during lunch unless there is a request and consensus to keep it the same.
Vehicles - All closed body vehicles in good working order are eligible for entry including unregistered,
unlicensed and/or uninsured vehicles. The driver must own the vehicle, or written permission from the
owner must be presented for use of the vehicle in this event (there is space on the entry form, or you
supply a letter). One passenger may be carried. No person under 16 years of age is allowed to compete.
Mandatory Safety Equipment & Provisions
- Each person in a competing vehicle must wear a SNELL or equivalent rated SA95, M95 or
newer helmet. IRC does NOT have loaner helmets.
- The minimum of a three point seat harness must be worn by driver and passenger.
- All loose objects must be removed from the vehicle prior to going on course.
Rev. 2 (Sep 2010) 1
Entry Requirement
- Valid provincial/state drivers license.
-a Basic CARS performance license (issued by RPM and available on site for $10 per day or $25
for the year; CARS rebates the $25 upon purchase of a current CARS performance license. Purchase of
the $25 annual license is highly recommended as a cost saving measure. A separate application needs
to be completed. Please note: a CACC license is not valid for rally cross.
-proof of membership in a CARS affiliated club. The Island Rallysport Club will be offering a ‘day’
membership for $5 at registration, however, annual IRC membership, which is valid till Dec 31 2010 ($40
single or $60 family at the same residence) is HIGHLY recommended as a cost saving measure, and
requires completing a separate application form.
- Minors 16 to 18 years of age require written signed permission on an Annual Parental Waiver
form. The minor signs a Minor Waiver at each event.
-Adults sign the General Waiver at each event.
-A passenger/navigator must sign a waiver but does not require a CARS licence or club
membership, but may NOT be under 16 (16 to 18 – see above).
-All entrants are required to work the course when not running. Any entrant found not
completing their course work duties will have their times nullified.
-completed and satisfactory self technical inspection (spot checks will be done)
-signed permission by the owner for use of the vehicle in the event
Entry Fee - $20.00 for all day. $5.00 discount if registering for only morning or afternoon.
Entry forms have a spot to indicate morning, afternoon, or all day. Entry form has each event listed, and
does not need to be repeatedly completed EXCEPT if you change your personal information.
Guarantee a Spot - We need to know how many are planning to attend each event. Needed: at least 5 to
have ‘signed up’ by FRIDAY EVENING; a maximum of 20 will be allowed to run. “Sign up” is requested,
with no guarantee of space on RX day for drop-ins. If you have no serious likelihood of being there,
don’t ‘sign up’. Entry priority goes to those who have ‘signed up’, then entrants of the previous event(s)
in series, IRC members, and other sanctioned motorsports club’s (CARS & CACC) members, then the
general public. Exceptions CAN be made; ask.
‘Sign up’ contact: Bart bk-g@shaw.ca You can sign up months in advance.
See the ‘sign up’ list at: http://www.islandrallysport.com/page13/page13.html

Two Classes – 2WD 4WD
Awards – To keep costs to entrants to a minimum, awards will be in the form of our admiration for your
placement in class. If the events are well attended we will look into setting up series (keepable) awards
for the 2 classes. IRC’s perpetual Rally Cross award is for the best overall full IRC member entrant,
regardless of class. Position points will be awarded for each of the morning and afternoon sessions for
st nd rd th th
two classes: 4WD and 2WD, as well as for overall. Points given are, in order: 1 -9, 2 -6, 3 -4, 4 -3, 5
th
-2, 6 -1.
For the 2010 Series, we expected to conduct events on 11 dates. Each has an a.m. and p.m.
component, so we will effectively award 22 sets of points. To allow flexibility for personal
scheduling, we will let you have a ‘best of’ choice. Full slate of 22 – 18 will be counted, In case
we cannot run the full series, please use the information here to see how many will be counted
for points. Note that a.m. and p.m. count separately, so you can attend partial days, or retire
due to mechanicals (no refund of entry fee) 20 – 16 counted, 18 – 14 counted, 16 – 12 counted,
14 – 10 counted, 12 – 8 counted, 10 – 7 counted, 8 or fewer – all are counted.
Rev. 2 (Sep 2010) 2
Please note that as of September 2010, it has been decided to finish the series at the end of
the October rally cross. That means 12 will have been run, so the best 8 of your results will be
counted towards the series points. For obvious reasons, the results cannot be fully predicted
at this time.
After the end of the October rally cross, there will be discussion and practice of a new timing
and point system being planned for 2011. Anyone interested in learning about this, and having
direct input into the 2011 series should be there on October 17.
