Goal Ball / Get Active Now

GOAL BALL Wow!

Perhaps a new sport to you but for many it is a great game. It is a game in which two

teams on opposite ends of a court vigorously roll a ball containing bells at each other

with the intent of sneaking the ball past your opponents into their goal area. This can

be a very high speed and devious game requiring your skills of hearing and team-

work. The players are equalized in ability by being blindfolded. All ages are welcome.

Be prepared for fun. Indoor shoes are required. Elbow and knee pads suggested

though not required.

Churchill and Volunteer Pool – What’s NEW

For additional information about our programs, services or facilities please call Churchill Pool 577-2538 or

Volunteer Pool 345-5143.

• Admission Standards

As part of our commitment to providing safe and enjoyable aquatic programs for swimmers of all ages, we are

continuing to enforce the admission standards provided to us by the Ministry of Health. To help us maintain

this standard please keep the following in mind when visiting our pools:

1) There must be one supervising caregiver for every 2 children under the age of 6.

2) There must be one supervising caregiver for every 4 non-swimming children aged 6 to 9.

In both cases the supervising caregiver must be able to give immediate assistance. If you have any questions

please feel free to call Volunteer Pool at 345-5143 or Churchill Pool at 577-2538.

• Family and Accessible Changeroom

Volunteer Pool is pleased to announce that the new family and accessible changeroom is open and ready to be

used. The new change area has an accessible shower, change area and washroom facility. Lockers are available

for use as well. The changeroom is located off the pool deck. Feel free to take a look next time you’re in!

Churchill Pool and Volunteer Pool Are A Lot More Safe!

Thanks to a charitable donation from Garry Beach and Safegard Products, the two pools are now a

lot safer. Both have been treated with Safegard, a slip resistant product that has greatly enhanced the

safety of everyone using these two facilities. After treatment, the tiled area has thousands of micro

discs in it permanently. Each one acts as a suction cup increasing traction. The wetter the surface the

better it works. Slippery floors are always a concern in pool environments and anything that we can

do to make it safer is positive. A big thanks to Garry and Safegard Products – your help is greatly

appreciated by everyone that uses Churchill Pool and Volunteer Pool!

Community Aquatics - Children’s Swim Program

For Specific Level Information Please refer to page 136 or

call Sir Winston Churchill or Volunteer Pool.

Swimming Lessons begin the week of April 6, 2009 at Churchill Pool and Volunteer Pool.

Community Aquatics has made some changes to the programming we offer.

DAYTIME PARENT AND TOT

Volunteer Pool will now be offering a day time Parent and Tot class on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. This pro-

gram is designed for children aged 3 months to 3 years old. They will learn various aquatic skills and enjoy

their time accompanied by a parent or caregiver in the water. Call the pool for more details.

SWIM PATROL

We now have a new swim patrol registration system at Churchill and Volunteer Pool. When you register

for this program you have the option of signing up for Rookie, Ranger or Star Patrol. Participants can continue

their progress through these dynamic levels or they can start at the beginning and work their way through

the entire Swim Patrol Chart! (It is strongly recommended that these advanced levels be taken in a group

setting instead of a private one, as many of the lifesaving skills require a partner to complete them.)

Before you make your swim class selection, please refer to the following chart. . .
