What is RUWirelessSecure?
RUWirelessSecure is Rockefeller University’s secure wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). It enables Rockefeller
University users to connect securely to electronic campus resources via a wireless connection and without the need for
VPN. Users connected to RUWirelessSecure can use their laptop computer as if connected to the wired campus network.
To connect RUWirelessSecure, you must have a valid RUNet account. Your RUNet login is the same username and
password you use to log in to e-mail, Webmail, Central File Store (CFS), Exchange of Large Files (ELF) and other
electronic services on the campus network.

RUWirelessSecure is available everywhere RUWireless is found.

How to connect to RUWirelessSecure wireless network
Overview
To connect to RUWirelessSecure, your device must have a wireless card that supports the WPA2 Enterprise
authentication (see the detailed instructions for your system to determine if your card is WPA2-enabled). WPA2 allows
users to enter a username and password for network access (your RUNet username and password is required to connect
to RUWirelessSecure). If WPA2 is not available on your device, you will either need to update your operating system or
your wireless software. If you are using older wireless technology, you may need to replace your wireless card. Some
handheld devices, such as the iPhone are not compatible with WPA2 Enterprise security as of the date this document was
last updated (see bottom right).

 The Network Name (SSID) is: RUWirelessSecure
When setting up your connection for the first time, you will need to enter the network name—your computer will not
automatically detect it. Enter the SSID exactly as shown. The name is case-sensitive. Do not use spaces.

 Use your RUNet username and password to connect to RUWirelessSecure
Your RUNet account gives you access to various electronic campus resources, including e-mail. If you do not have an
RUNet account, fill out and submit an Open Account Form to the IT Administrative Office. An RUNet account is free.
Download the form from the Forms & Rates section of the IT Web site at
    http://it.rockefeller.edu/html/pdf/IT_Open_New_Account_Form.pdf

 Use the built-in wireless utility that comes with your operating system
Due to the variety of available wireless cards and operating systems, wireless support from Information Technology
(IT) is limited to the built-in wireless utility that comes with the operating system (Windows XP or Vista, and Mac OS
10.3.9 or greater). If you wish to use a third party utility instead of your device's built-in wireless, you may need to
contact the vendor or use your wireless utility's help pages to connect to RUWirelessSecure. IT cannot guarantee a
connection between RUWirelessSecure and third-party wireless utilities.

 Select RUWirelessSecure from your available wireless networks the next time you wish to connect
Once your computer / device is configured for RUWirelessSecure, it will remember your user information the next time
you connect. You may receive a Validate Server Certificate window each time you connect. If so, click OK/Continue.
