Destination Wairarapa is the Regional Tourism Organisation for the Wairarapa, charged with
increasing the number of visitors to the Wairarapa, their length of stay, and the amount they
Formed in 2007, it has had good success in achieving these objectives and developing
confidence within the Wairarapa visitor industry.
It is an incorporated society with 240 members associated with the Wairarapa visitor
industry. It is funded by the three Wairarapa District Councils, the Trust House Charitable
Trust, and member subscriptions, and has an annual operating budget of $800,000.
It operates two i-SITEs at Martinborough and Masterton and has its office based in

Conditions of Appointment
The General Manager shall be employed by Destination Wairarapa Inc. and will be
responsible to the Chairman of Destination Wairarapa with whom they will meet and
liaise on a regular basis.

This is a full time position and the General Manager shall not hold any other paid
position or accept any other retainer without prior approval of the Chairman.
The appointment is for a two year period and subject to a Fixed Term Individual
Employment Agreement. This recognises the term of the current funding
The appointment may be terminated by either party by the giving of one months
notice of resignation by the appointee or dismissal by the Employer. In the case of
serious misconduct the appointee may be suspended while enquiries and/or
investigations are conducted. Any such suspension will not in itself imply any wrong
doing and such suspension will be on full pay.
The appointee will be eligible to join Kiwi Saver on commencement of duties.
The normal hors of work will be forty hours per week, but the employee will be
expected to work further hours and on weekends and public holidays such as the
position may require.
Annual leave will be four weeks per annum to be taken with the prior approval of the
Chairman. The full entitlement to annual leave is expected to be taken within the
period of the agreement and is subject to the conditions of the holidays Act 2003 and
A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
A relocation allowance, incorporating removal costs may be available to the
successful applicant, subject to negotiation. Removal insurance will be the
responsibility of the appointee.
Should the position be terminated by the appointee within one year of
commencement, the appointee will be required to repay the balance of any
removal/relocation calculated on a monthly pro rata basis.
The appointee must hold a drivers licence and will be reimbursed for the use of their
private vehicle for Destination Wairarapa business. This reimbursement will cover all
running, maintenance insurance and registration costs up to an agreed maximum
annual figure in accordance with Board policy. This policy will be subject to annual
review and agreement.
Personal lobbying of any member of the Destination Wairarapa Board by or on behalf
of an applicant will result in disqualification of their application.

Qualification, Skills, and Experience
A relevant tertiary qualification with a minimum of 5 years senior management
A strong affinity with tourism and its associated marketing needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interact with tourism industry
players, politicians, media and public.
Proven ability to lead, motivate and support staff, and to monitor and evaluate their

monitoring and reporting to the Board and the principal funders.
To cooperate with Trust House accounts personnel and Audit NZ, to ensure the
timely provision of payroll functions, monthly accounts, and audited annual accounts.
To operate the two i-SITEs with exemplary customer service and increasing

Be the spokesperson on Wairarapa Tourism issues and achieve an ongoing
Destination Wairarapa presence in the Media, featuring achievements, tourism
developments, key Wairarapa statistics, and advancing the economic benefits of
tourism to the region.
