CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS
2000 – Present
INTEGRATED COMPUTER RESOURCES CONSULTANT
Technology Advisor Technology Advisor East Seventh Street Kids Center – Designed and implemented network and desktop documentation, asset, configuration management processes and Office 2003 and Sharepoint integrated collaborative systems. Center employees now are requested to use a web/email based Service Request Form for more complex issues concerning IT service delivery. As an adjunct to this activity, all PC’s and the network itself were fully audited and documented, including an interactive map of the network and network devices.
Jananarama PhotoWorks Jananarama.com is a mobile, all digital photography lab using the virtual corporation operational framework. They specialize in photo – documentation of sporting events, family reunions and group outings as the on-site photographers and developers. As technology consultant, I selected all hardware and software for capturing, storing and processing photographs taken on-site to final output. I developed all procedures and processes for capturing, storing and processing photographs taken on-site. I also developed the Jananarama web site for on-line photo sales, photo albums and video albums (streaming video). Technology Advisor Lexington History Museum At the Lexington History Museum I have instituted Configuration, Asset and Change Control Management services, positioning the Museum for downstream savings in hardware. I also developed the Museum's Internet web-based collaborative services site so that team staff members can be electronically co-located. The services include discussion groups, an on-line IT Help Desk, Document Workflow management and Calendaring/Scheduling functions. On-line Project Management and document storage and retrieval functions will be added 3Q of 2004. Technology Advisor goseethis.com As a function of being a consultant I served as the Technology Advisor to goseethis.com, a virtual non-profit organization (http://goseethis.com). This organization is a clearinghouse for local writers in the Lexington Area. My innovations there include: Business planning and infrastructure set up for a "virtual organization". This included business plan writing and execution, non-profit application status and project planning.
1995 - 2000
COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION
DIRECTOR, T ECHNICAL SERVICES/SENIOR ENGINEER/SENIOR PROJECT M ANAGER My projects at CSC have included: Storserver/DCS backup project - This project resulted in a backup & restore product that could backup & restore all server platforms (Unix/NT/Novell) regardless of content, from a centralized system. This effort required coordination with multiple vendors, disparate system managers for
multiple platforms, in addition to careful management of client expectations. I planned and supervised all activities throughout the entire life cycle of this project from conceptual design through implementation and on-going support. I ensured on-time and on-budget delivery of all tasks. The project was completed to the very successful testing phase, and was a pioneering implementation of the Storage Area Network (SAN) concept. Supervised 13 personnel. Enterprise Resource Planning- In the summer of 1997, my team implemented new Enterprise Resource Planning systems and techniques for Control Instruments Corporation, based on SAP R/3 and CSC Catalyst methodology. I planned and supervised all activities throughout the entire life cycle of this project from conceptual design through implementation and on-going support. I ensured on-time and on-budget delivery of all tasks. A few examples of improvements in the hard numbers: Inventory has been reduced by 50% in dollars and in floor space in the first year. Currently dollars are at 25% of what they were if we exclude obsolete and slow moving parts (Some of the Legacy left to us by the Legacy Systems) and floor space has been reduced by 75%. Inventory turns doubled from 2 to 4 in the first year. Productivity increased about 50% in terms of Sales ($’s) per Employee. Delivery performance has increased from 70% to 90% on time to promise. Supervised 22 personnel. Dupont Red Team for Operational Assessment- Provided comprehensive analysis of operational processes for help desk and performance measures, in a pre-contract context. I planned and supervised all activities concerning these issues, from conceptual design through implementation and on-going support. I ensured on-time and on-budget delivery of all tasks. Accurate and meaningful project status reports were published to management on a scheduled basis. Recommendations accepted by Dupont’s General Information Utility included: Developing SLA’s and response metrics for all help desk services Review metrics with DecisionOne (move/add/change vendor). Measure trouble ticket reworks Implement quality assessment (SQA) programs for all metrics
Supervised 8 personnel. Y2K project coordinator at GDE Systems. Working under the Y2K program manager. - All platforms (Unix/NT/NetWare). Y2K inventory/Asset management checks - managed these activities for all platform leads. Y2K Ready plans - coordinated submission of all platform & application plans for making these items Y2K ready. Y2K project plans integration - integrated ready plans into unified project framework. Knowledge Management Completely re-engineered the GDE Systems Intranet, along the lines of the Full Service Intranet concept I developed. Knowledge Management objectives for this project (document management, data mining back-end, sophisticated index and search) was paramount in this implementation. Plans have been executed to re-engineer GDE Internet and extranet activities along this same concept. This project received a readiness rating of Blue, the highest possible.
Baker & Taylor MS Exchange migration proposal - Baker & Taylor Books initiated a New Service work order, requesting a proposal for CSC to support implementation of a Microsoft Exchange mail system, which I wrote. This proposal describes how CSC intends to support the Microsoft Exchange mail system, including the technical approach for the continuing administration and maintenance of the service. 1994 - 1995 ACUCOBOL
ASSOCIATE MIS DIRECTOR As the System Architect, Internet Services and Help Desk Manager for internal users at Acucobol, I planned and implemented Internet access and usage for 200 internal users, employing World Wide Web, FTP, and POP/SMTP mail services. I planned and supervised all activities throughout the entire life cycle of this project from conceptual design through implementation and on-going support. I ensured on-time and on-budget delivery of all tasks. I also developed detailed project definitions and tasks estimates. MS Project project management tracking tools were used to track project progress and to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner. Accurate and meaningful project status reports were published to management on a scheduled basis. I also developed a company-wide Intranet using PDF as the standard format for disseminating sales materials. Later, migrated this approach to Acucobol corporate web server. While migrating the facility from a serial line configuration to an integrated TCP/IP LAN, I supervised 4 personnel. 1993 - 1994 JOSTENS LEARNING COMPANY SENIOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT ENGINEER
While a senior technical support engineer at Jostens' Learning, I managed a technical base of over 5000 Macintosh and SUN client/sever network sites for a leading educational software company, and supported these sites by responding to incident inquiries. I also installed and tested software and instructed clients and support personnel on procedures. My responsibilities included hardware and software specifications, setup, testing and training. . I was responsible for all technical documentation for new software releases, and making this documentation available to tech support personnel on the Jostens intranet, which I also designed and executed. Supervised 6 personnel.
INTEGRATED COMPUTER RESOURCES CONSULTANT With my own company, ICR, I designed and implemented personnel training plans in a variety of applications and environments, including DOS, UNIX, Macintosh and Windows, for such clients as Proctor & Gamble, Standard Products and Clark Machinery. This includes hardware and software consulting for very large purchases, and detailed technical training for the use and management of these systems. REFERENCES PROVIDED UPON REQUEST
