Technical Feasibility In this chapter, the group presents the products, manufacturing process, plant size and production schedule, machinery and equipment, plant location and layout, building facilities and the raw material and supplies for the operation of “Biba Lavandera” laundry shop. A. Services Biba Lavandera will be providing customers with the following laundry services: Wash, Dry, Fold (WDF),Wash Dry Press (WDP), Pressing Only, Hand Wash, and Dry Cleaning services. Wash, Dry,Fold or WDF is the most common sought service from a laundry shop. This service provides basic machine washing and drying; and folding for customers’ clothes, comforters, towels, curtains and seat covers with or without foam. This process is done with the aid of washing machines and dryers. Washing machines perform several rinses after the main wash to remove most of the detergent. Then, the clothing would be placed on a clothes dryer or tumble dryer that is used to remove moisture from a load of clothing and other textiles. Then, the clothes or garments would be manually folded and bagged for pick up for the customers. Wash, Dry,Press or WDP is the modified service of the usual Wash,Dry,Fold. This service provides basic machine washing and drying; and pressing of clothes before folding of customers’ clothes, comforters, towels, curtains and seat covers with or without foam. The process is highly identical with the WDF process, only with the addition of pressing or smoothing of clothes using an iron. Pressing or Ironing or smoothing is the work of using a heated tool, or tools, such as an iron to remove wrinkles from fabric. Ironing works by loosening the bonds between the longchain polymer molecules in the fibers of the material. While the molecules are hot, the fibers are
straightened by the weight of the iron, and they hold their new shape as they cool. Some fabrics, such as cotton, require the addition of water to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Aside from this, ironing may also be used as a germ/parasite killing hygienic operation. Most ironing is done on an ironing board, a small, portable, foldable table with a heat resistant top. Some commercialgrade ironing boards incorporate a heating element and a pedal-operated vacuum to pull air through the board and dry the garment. But technology has paved its way in improving the traditional iron to steam irons which allow pressing without an ironing board. Hand Washing is the traditional manual cleaning of clothes. Some delicate clothing pieces require gentle cleansing, thus the need for hand washing service. The laundry worker would wash the specified clothing one by one by hand and bar soap and the clothing would also be air-dried before it could be folded.
Dry Cleaning is a cleaning process for clothing and textiles using an organic solvent rather
than water. The solvent used is typically tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene), abbreviated "perc" in the industry and "dry-cleaning fluid" by the public. Dry cleaning is necessary for cleaning items which would otherwise be damaged by water and soap or detergent. The cleaning process of dry cleaning is more time consuming compared to the usual wash, dry, fold process, but there are clothing that requires such service like gowns and barongs, coats, suits, dresses, jackets, caps and neckties. The international GINETEX laundry symbol for dry cleaning is a circle. It may have a letter P inside to indicate perchloroethylene solvent, or a letter F inside to indicate a hydrocarbon solvent. A bar underneath the circle indicates that only mild cleaning processes should be used. A crossed out empty circle indicates that no dry cleaning is permitted
B. Manufacturing Process There are different processes involved in a laundry business depending on the specified service ordered by the customer and the service required with the type of garment or fabric. We also have the International Washing Symbols to refer to in washing the clothes to assure the customers that their garments are handled in the best way by a customer-satisfaction oriented business.
Production Process and Technology The modern laundry industry has developed into an efficient and cost-effective operation that has benefited from significant research into washing techniques and continuous innovations of washing machines, dryers and specialized devices for ironing or pressing. Machineries and Equipments are electrically driven, typically operating on 110V AC Supplies. In the laundry process, there are three basic functions: cleaning, drying and finishing. Initially, garments are pre-treated for stains to make it easier to remove and more complete. Pretreatment of stains may include application of bleaching agent to the fabric for stubborn stains or manual brushing with a washboard. Then, the garments are machine washed in a solution of a solvent, soaps and detergents. The solvent is extracted by first draining, then spinning the clothes. Finally, the garments are dried through a combination of aeration, heat and tumbling, and then they are, optionally, pressed. These functions are the core of any fabric cleaning process, although the details vary and steps may be minimized or omitted depending on the cleaning requirement of the garment.
A laundry symbol, also called a care symbol, is a pictogram which represents a method of washing, for example drying, dry-cleaning and ironing clothing. Such symbols are written on
labels, known as care labels, attached to clothing to indicate how a particular item should best be cleaned. There are different standards for care labels for the different countries/regions of the world. In some standards, pictograms coexist or are complemented by written instructions.
Treatment indicated by the symbols is "the maximum permitted treatment" and is not or recommended. GINETEX (a European organization that has defined one standard) states that "milder forms of treatment and lower temperatures than those indicated on the label are always permitted." For example, if a symbol indicates washing in hot water and tumble drying, washing in cold water and drying on a clothes line are also acceptable.

INITIAL PROCESS IN ACQUISITION OF GARMENTS
The initial processes involved in the acquisition of the garments are: Tagging and Inspection, Garment Segregation, Weighing and Pricing, , Process of Service Ordered and Finishing for preparation for pick-up. The first step in the process is the Tagging and Inspection. A vital stage in the commercial laundering of domestic fabrics is the individual marking of every article in a customer’s wash. In this step, as the customer submits their laundry for servicing, the garments are labeled for identification and are sorted into laundry bins classified according to the wash process involved. Tagging can be done through color coding which indicates the customer’s identification. In the Garment Segregation step, the attendant has to segregate the laundry according to category and washing requirements. Usually this step is merged with Tagging and Inspection process.
Then the assorted garments are weighed and Priced according to its category and the attendant issues an order slip to the customer for the charges incurred for the ordered laundry service, including the claiming date for the laundry, and the amount the customer has to pay. Next process would be the actual washing of clothes. In this step, process varies according to the clothes category and washing requirement. This step typically involves the three basic functions in laundering: Washing, Drying and optionally, pressing. Last step in the process is the Finishing, or the quality check. This is also the stage that the clothes are actually bagged and prepared for pick-up.

Then, clothes requiring higher heat temperatures are pressed first followed by clothes requiring medium to low heat.Clothes are folded subsequently after pressing. Lastly, clothes are segregated accoding to tag identification, bagged and prepared for pick up.
Hand Washing Process
In hand washing service, clothes are initially soaked and rinse in luke warm water to loosen up the fabric for cleaning, then clothes are soaked in luke warm water with detergent for an hour. Then, clothes would be hand washed with bar soap and bleach, if needed. Clothes would be rinsed thrice with cold water and on the third rinse, water would have 1 cap of fabric conditioner. Clothes that can be tumble dried would be tumble dried for about 10 minutes and clothes that cannot be tumble dried would be air-dryed. Then, clothes would be segregated and folded according to tag identification. Lastly, clothes would be bagged and prepared for pick-up.
DRY CLEANING PROCESS
In the Dry Cleaning process, the dry cleaning fluid would be placed on a basin, then the clothes would be immersed and soaked into the chemical for a minimum of 8 minutes but not exceeding 30 minutes, depending on the stain or dirt on the garment that has to be removed.

Detergent Soap Bleach Bleach is a chemical that removes colors or whitens, often via oxidation. Common chemical bleaches include household "chlorine bleach", a solution of approximately 3–6% sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), and "oxygen bleach", which contains hydrogen peroxide or a peroxide-releasing compound such as sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate, sodium persulfate, sodium perphosphate, or urea peroxide together with catalysts and activators, e.g. tetraacetylethylenediamine and/or sodium nonanoyloxybenzenesulfonate. Bar Soap Fabric Conditioner Fabric Conditioner (also called fabric softener) is used to prevent static cling and make fabric softer. It is available as a liquid or as dryer sheets. Fabric softeners work by coating the surface of the cloth fibers with a thin layer of chemicals; these chemicals have lubricant properties and are electrically conductive, thus making the fibers feel smoother and preventing buildup of static electricity. Other functions are improvements of iron glide during ironing, increased resistance to stains, and reduction of wrinkling.
