                                   Introduction
2003 Graduates: One Year Later was prepared by the Division of Information Services at
Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The report summarizes
the results of the eighth annual survey funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’
Department of Education.

The purpose of the annual study is to gather data on demographics and job placement
status of NECC graduates one year after graduation. Two essential institutional
requirements are fulfilled in the process:
        1. Provide data to meet the planning and development needs of NECC; and
        2. Meet the regulatory requirements of the Division of Occupational Education
at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Department of Education.

NECC awarded a total of 771 degrees and certificates to 738 graduates in 2003. In May
2004, surveys were mailed to all graduates along with a postage paid reply envelope. In
an effort to obtain the most representative sample possible, follow-up phone calls were
placed to those graduates who did not return their completed surveys by the date
requested. A total of 477 surveys were received from 318 female graduates and 159 male
graduates for a response rate of 65%, allowing this study to serve as a Measures and
Standards Report for the Class of 2003.

                                        NECC Satisfaction:
                                      Graduate Respondents
Graduate Respondents were asked to rate “level of satisfaction with NECC in general” on
a scale of 1 (Not At All Satisfied) to 5 (Extremely Satisfied).
                                Mean Median Mode
                                 4.3 4.0 5.0
                                        n=389

comments represent recurring themes:
“Quality education at a fair price”
