Environmental Impact Assessment
Chemicals used in Laundromat business like bleach, soap bars and dry cleaning fluid can cause harmful impacts or effects when not properly store, use, and dispose. Improper storage and disposal of detergents can cause contamination of water and water pollution washed water can contribute pollutants such as pathogens, nutrients, metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, detergents, chlorine, organics and heat from the Laundromat business. These pollutants can cause a negative effect on receiving waters and contribute substantial levels of contaminants. It also contributes in soil corrosion that causes soil pollution. Since, the Biba Lavandera uses a drainage system with filter screen, used water and chemicals are disposed properly, the business complies with “RA 9275: The Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004" which advanced the prevention, control, and abatement of pollution in water resources. It encourages that water quality issues should not be separated from concerns on water sources and ecological protection, water supply, public health and quality of life. This Act endorsed management programs to address water pollution.
A business under Service Industry does not need to have an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), but since Laundromat business uses chemicals and other materials that can be harmful to the society it must secure an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC). In order to have an ECC, the business should get an Environmental Impact Assessment Coverage and Requirements Screening Checklist (EIARSC) form from the nearest Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in the local government unit and qualify and pass the screening.
