1.       1st Year: National Certificate: Professional Cookery

         Duration: 12 Months
         Certifying Body: CATHSSETA

1.1      Purpose & Rationale of Qualification

These qualifications are designed to develop professionals in the food preparation industry (hospitality).
The qualification is designed to bring together elements of food and drink preparation and service as well as
generic hotel management. This qualification will professionalise the industry and is applicable to all
sectors, from small restaurants to large-scale hotels.
1.2      Exit Level Outcomes

On completion of each of this course, the learner will be able to work in the hotel industry as junior chef.
With hard work and determination the learner will be able to progress of an executive chef one day. They
can also be able to open up their own business and be able to employ people to work under them. The
qualification provides articulation with gaming, Travel and other Tourism industries.
