OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED

Specification WG Focus (Drew)

• Goals:

• Enhance the OCP Specification with key

additions to address immediate commercial

need

• Produce a roadmap for future enhancements

to address future technical need

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 13

Specification WG 2004 Priorities (Drew)

1. Produce v2.1 (solid draft) by end of May

2. Converge on coherence extensions by end of year

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 14

OCP v2.1 – Enhancement Proposals (Drew)

• Memory semantics

• Tagging (lighter weight threads) – MIPS – On track

• Cache-related signaling – MIPS – Deferred

• Cache coherence – MIPS – Deferred

• Layering

• Improve interoperability by describing specific use of in-

band and side-band extension signals – Little progress

• Profiles

• Reduce startup cost by providing canned configs –

Waiting on Drew

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 15

OCP v2.1 – Progress/Risks (1/3) (Drew)

• Coherence extensions are important and high risk

• MIPS has delayed related product

• Very complex topic

• Requires careful thought and analysis

• Face-face subgroup discussion @ MIPS 4/20

• Deferred until next version (v2.2)?

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 16

OCP v2.1 – Progress/Risks (2/3) (Drew)

• Layering extensions need motivated owner

• Trying to use security extensions to drive?

• Not clear we have enough motivation to

complete in time

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 17

OCP v2.1 – Progress/Risks (3/3) (Drew)

• Profile extensions are pretty simple

• Probably guidelines, not specification

• Still needs to be driven; Drew trying to allocate

time

• Hard part is haggling over the choices

• Dovetails in well with processor, memory,

peripheral subsystem focus

• Drew is over-committed, no short-term

solution in sight

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 18

Spec WG University Opportunities (Drew)

• Cache coherence protocol analysis is/was popular

topic in graduate programs

• Proving the OCP extensions is required

• Can we convince one or more universities to work

on this?

• Are probably several parts that could be

parceled out

• Adding OCP 2.0 support to TL2-TL1 and

TL1-TL0 adapters

• The adapters are for OCP-IP members only

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 21

SLD WG Current Work (Anssi)

• Cooperation with OSCI TLM group

• Cadence is building a generic channel, which we

hope to adopt in OCP-IP

• Implement most of our generic interfaces

• Close cooperation with Cadence

• OSCI has a strong push for getting a TLM

specification out

• So far, hitting the same technical hurdles OCP

has solved earlier

• Progress is slow, but accelerating

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 22

SLD WG Current Work cont. (Anssi)

• Release 2.0.2 (OCP 2.0, code version 2)

• Early May

• Added missing timing arcs (Nokia)

• Optimized for speed (2 to 6x improvement)

• Fixed deficiencies in timing TL1 abstraction

• Currently under heavy testing (>50 test cases)

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 23

SLD WG Plan for H2 2004 (Anssi)

• OCP Programmer’s View

• New activity, by Philips donation

FV WG Highlights (Franck)

• Marquette Anderson resigned from the FV WG chair

• New chairman: Jeroen Vliegen, TI WTBU, responsible for

OCP interconnect verification

• In addition, 3 other Tiers will participate to the working group:

• Massimo Falco, Mehdi Mghith, David Camara

(TI wireless top-level and IP verification)

• Proposal: set up a one day face-to-face working session with

all FVWG participants

• Required to maximize the chance to reach the end-of-the

year target. Need MIPS, Nokia, Valiosys, NoBug back.

• May in Europe?

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 28

FV WG Key Aspects (Franck)

• Main target

• Develop a functional compliance verification plan for OCP

modules

• Short term

• Define a dynamic verification plan for a slave OCP interface

• Longer term

• Define a static verification plan for a slave OCP interface

• Define the compliance for a master OCP interface

• Hit a functional coverage as high as possible (stimuli

created by the designer)

• 100%-success using the golden protocol checker

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 29

Short Term: Dynamic Verification (Franck)

• Idea: use a logic simulator to:

1. Drive stimuli

2. Measure functional coverage

3. Flag errors with a protocol checker

• Status:

1. Definition of stimuli/vector set is in discussion

2. A first-cut of the functional coverage definition has been

submitted by Yogitech. It’s in feedback phase.

3. Chapter 11 defines the protocol properties. The SONICS

protocol checker is available in Core Creator. Yogitech

has a protocol checker in E-language.

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 30

Long Term: Static Verification (Franck)

• Idea:

• Formally verify a core’s OCP compliance

using a set of OCP properties

• Complement dynamic verification

• Status:

• Valiosys provided v1.5.0 of the OCP protocol

properties to the group

• A review/feedback is needed

• Use this document as functional coverage

inspiration

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 31

FV WG Conclusions (Franck)

1. The focus will be on stimuli/vectors definition and

functional coverage definition for dynamic

simulation

2. Active discussions + feedback should result in

good progress

3. Formal verification will be addressed long-term

- Schedule/milestones to be formalized during

that face-to-face working day

Active WG Participation

• Toshiba notified OCP-IP of interest in all WGs

• Need formal list of participants for each WG

from Toshiba

• WGs must be notified to alternate times of

bi-weekly meetings to accommodate Europe

and Japan

• Already no issue if participants from California?

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 36

Supporting Toshiba and Recruiting in Japan

• Few trade organizations accommodate Japanese

market needs

• Key issue is English language centricity

• What does Toshiba need, and what can they support?

• Specifications

• Web site

• OCP training

• Technical support

• Press releases

• Direct recruiting

systems users and designers via improved visibility and

acknowledged competence of ECSI

• To establish a recognized professional body called ECSI-

SYDIC, through which ECSI disseminates results from

domain-specific System Design methodology projects

OCP-IP CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE DUPLICATED 44

ECSI Methods (Ian)
