Are You Ready to Fall into Fall?
Not sure how two thirds of the year has slipped by, but it has. Fall is just around the corner
and the guild is still grooving along. September finds us all looking at those quilters treats in a
new way as Jean and the rest of the Demo Dynamos are going to show us how we can use
those layer cakes, mini buns, turnovers and the like.
Looking toward October‟s Guild Challenge, I hope everyone is well on their way to some
“glorious” quilts because the deadline on that is SEPTEMBER 13.
At the September meeting, I will be taking registrations for Teri Tope‟s Reverse Appliqué
class on Saturday, November 12. Class will be 9:30-4:30 and the cost is $30 for members.
There are a limited number of spots. So if you have wanted to learn about appliqué or want to
expand your skills into reverse appliqué, this is the class for you. Go visit her site at
http://www.materialgirldesigns.com/patterns.html.
Lastly, it has been a great two years as Vice President, but it is time to hand the reigns to
another energized person. If interested give me a call to get the scoop.
    Happy Quilting!

A Note from the President...
Thank you everyone for being at the August guild meeting. Thanks also to the holders and
folders. I‟m really looking forward to our demo meeting in September.
Debbie Maddy mentioned something that has been on my mind for a few years now, and I
have done nothing about it: Getting our youth involved in quilting.
I would like to start a team of quilters who are willing to put some time into planning some
youth quilting events. Please see me at the September meeting or e-mail me. Right now we
can dream big on this. Create a catchy youthful name; decide what age groups we can offer our
„classes‟ to; and develop any other ideas you may have.
As I look at my calendar (filled beyond my life expectancy) I wonder “What are you
thinking?”. Then I think, there are others who have a heart for teaching the younger generations
that would join you. I know that I can‟t do this alone. So, depending on how many quilters step
up to the call will determine if this is going to fly.
Even as I‟m getting ready to send this to Ed for print the selfish part of me is saying….you
don‟t have time, this is too big, no one is interested or they would have done this already….the
giving side of me is saying...there are others out there wanting to do the same but just don‟t
know where to start.

WHAT TO DO WITH THOSE PRE-CUTS
(Jelly Rolls and Charm Packs)
Do you love those pre-cut Jelly Rolls and Charm packs and have them sitting around in your
quilting room, or have you been wanting to purchase some but didn‟t know what you‟d do with
them?
Come to Demonstration Night at the September meeting and get some great quick and easy
tips and techniques for using them.

Sign-up for Secret Stitchers
Sign-ups for a new season of Secret Stitchers has begun. If you missed signing up in
August there is still time to do so at the September meeting. The first gift exchange will be in
November.
This is a fun way to get to know another guild member. Each month you will bring a small
gift such as a fat-quarter, sewing notion, a treat, or other inexpensive item for your assigned
Stitcher, and you will receive a gift from your Secret Stitcher. In May the identities of the
Stitchers are revealed.
Participants from last year seemed to enjoy the experience. New secret stitchers are most
welcome.
Look for the Secret Stitcher basket with the sign-up cards on the shelf by the kitchen.
If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Carruth at jccbsc@gmail.com or at 254-

Tea & Talk
Mark your calendar for the next Tea & Talk set for 6 p.m. on Friday, October 14, at the home
of Shari Brindley, 721 North King Street, Xenia.
Tea and Talk was initiated by Shari as an opportunity for newer members to get together
with more “seasoned” members to ask questions and share information and ideas about the
Guild or even general quilting questions.
Tea & Talk is an occasional activity, held as members volunteer to host the event.
Members are invited to chat, laugh and get to know others in the Guild on a more personal
basis than is possible at monthly meetings. It‟s a great time to ask questions about the Guild,
about equipment, supplies, shopping destinations, etc., and quilters are always willing to share a
good time or two.
If you plan on attending the October Tea and Talk, please call Shari at 479-8342 for
directions and so she can plan for the appropriate number of guests.

In response to inquiries about the oriental themed quilt she displayed for Show and Tell at
the August meeting, Merle Scribner has indicted that she would be interested in teaching others
