Glendale Community College
What is this presentation about?
This presentation provides a birds-eye view of
Accreditation, HLC, and the overall Self-Study
Share Point will become the platform for
sharing documents, data, and ideas for the
self-study culminating in 2012.
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is an external certification of the
quality and integrity of an educational
program or institution.
It is also an internal “critical self-analysis
leading to improvement in quality”.
The organization is evaluated based on its
mission, and the accrediting agency’s
standards and criteria.
Who accredits GCC?
GCC is accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission, a division of the North Central
Association—one of 6 regional accrediting

GCC follows the traditional program, called

Where exactly does self study come in the process?
(second in six-step process)
1. Set standards (with accrediting agency)
2. Self-Study (to measure performance vis-à-vis
standards)…..This is where GCC is right now
3. On-site evaluation (at the end of self-study--to
gauge how well standards are being met)
4. Publication (in the “accredited” list)
5. Monitoring (ongoing through next evaluation)
(how will we begin the process of self-study?)
