PRAYER EVANGELISM II
SPIRIT-LED EVANGELISM SERIES
by Ché Ahn
Mk. 11:17 “My house will be a house of prayer for all nations.”
PURPOSE: TO TAKE TIME TO PRAY FOR REVIVAL AND SOCIAL
TRANSFORMATION IN THREE SPECIFIC NATIONS
This Sunday is the national day of prayer for Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem. We
want to pray for Israel but there are two other nations that we need to pray for.
THEME: “HISTORY BELONGS TO THE INTERCESSORS”--WALTER
I. JESUS WANTS US TO PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
A. “MY HOUSE WILL BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR ALL NATIONS,”
Mk. 11:17 [emphasis added].
1. Jesus doesn’t say, “My house will be a house of preaching, teaching or
fellowship,” but “a house of prayer for all nations.”
a) Ps. 2:8 “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the
ends of the earth your possession.”
b) Is. 66:8 “Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has ever seen such
things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a
moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her
c) The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be
done on earth [not just in our situations, but in the nations] as it is in
heaven,” Matt. 6:9-10.
d) 2 Chron. 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble
themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their
2. Conversely, if we don’t pray for our nation, judgment can come.
a) Ezek. 22:30-31 “I looked for a man among them who would build up the
wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not
have to destroy it, but I found none. So I will pour out my wrath on them
and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own
heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD.”
b) E.M. Bounds, whose books have impacted countless lives in the area of
prayer, said: “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there
is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against
evil. . . . The prayers of God’s saints are the capital stock of heaven by
which God carries on His great work upon earth. God conditions the
very life and prosperity of His cause on prayer.”
B. PRAYER FOR THE NATIONS CHANGES THE COURSE OF HISTORY
1. Britain in World War II
a) Rees Howells was a prophetic intercessor whose prayers turned the tide
in War World II. Though the Germans outnumbered the British Royal
Air Force three to one, the Lord told Howells that Hitler would be
defeated. In 1936, Howells started a prayer meeting in Wales. They
prayed every night from 7 to midnight. Germany wanted to bomb and
destroy England’s air defenses to clear the way for a Nazi invasion. As
Howells prayed, he sensed the victory though nothing in the natural
would indicate it. The Germans could have won, yet they mysteriously
turned around. No one could explain it but Rees Howells.
b) Howells also gave himself to intercession for Israel to become a nation.
Those prayers were answered on May 15, 1948.
c) During the Battle of Dunkirk, the Germans had cornered more than
330,000 British and French troops on the north coast of France. A defeat
there would have likely meant the fall of France, Britain, and ultimately
all of Europe. Britain’s King George VI called for a National Day of
Prayer on May 26, 1940. Prime Minister Winston Churchill attended a
packed prayer service at Westminster Abbey. That same day, a daring
rescue mission codenamed Operation Dynamo began. Every available
vessel down to the smallest fishing boat answered the call to cross the
English Channel and rescue the soldiers. It should have taken 40 days,
but in only nine days, 338,000 Allied forces were evacuated. Something
had prevented the Germans from overwhelming them on the beaches, and
a looming storm from hitting the area. Everyone, including the press,
called it a miracle of God.
a) Koreans birthed the Pyongyang Revival by spending four months in
prayer to close out the year 1906. They continued into the first eight
days of the new year as the breakthrough began.
b) This year, HIM hosted the Transformation 2007 conference in Seoul.
About 13,000 attendees prayed for North Korea to open up and reunify
with the South. USA Today recently carried a front-page article that said
the foundations are laid for a permanent peace and official end to the war
between North and South Korea.
3. South Africa
On my way to Mozambique, I was told that South Africa clearly could have
had a bloody civil war over the ending of apartheid, but God moved and
brought about a peaceful transition of government.
a) The Call DC in 2000, tipped the close presidential election between
George Bush and Al Gore.
b) The continual prayer of the JHOP (Justice House of Prayer) resulted in
the appointments of two new Supreme Court justices who have since
voted to ban partial birth abortion.
a) At The Call Philippines, we prayed for justice and prosperity for the
nation. Soon afterwards, the government gave back to the pineapple
farmers millions of dollars that had been held up in the courts.
b) They also discovered oil off of one island.
a) At The Call Australia in October 2004, Prime Minister John Howard’s
party came from way behind in the polls to win re-election against a
challenger who supported abortion and same sex marriage.
b) Last July 24, for the first time in the country’s history, both the Prime
Minister and the opposition leader addressed the Australian Christian
lobby. Their speeches were broadcast live to more than 2,000 churches
all over Australia. The year before, Christian leaders had gathered in the
nation’s capital for a summit called the Sexual Integrity Forum. One of
their main recommendations to the government was to recognize the link
between pornography and the breakdown of families. On July 24th,
Prime Minster Howard not only adopted the recommendation as
government policy, but also allocated $180 million dollars to give every
Australian family an internet filter to keep pornography out of their
homes. It was said that day, that for the first time in Australian political
history, Christians had shifted government policy.
HIM apostle Luke Bandari credits prayer with birthing revival and spiritual
awakening in his country.
8. Walter Wink said, “History belongs to the intercessors.”
II. LET US PRAY TODAY FOR THESE THREE NATIONS
1. Ps. 122:6 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love
2. Let’s pray for Jewish people to experience revival and true peace that comes
from knowing Yeshua, the Prince of Peace.
3. Is. 62:6-7 “I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will
never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no
rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the
praise of the earth.”
a) Jesus also told us to “Keep watch.” It is a military term meaning to post
soldiers on alert, to be on the lookout for the enemy. The concept is
similar to today’s “neighborhood watch.”
b) Count Zinzendorf and the Moravian Church founded a community called
Hernhut in the 1700s. Hernhut means the “Lord’s watch.” They had
ongoing prayer 24 hours a day for over 100 years, which birthed the
Protestant World Missions movement.
c) We need to be like the sons of Issachar who could discern the times that
they were living in and know what to do.
4. Rom. 11:26-27 “And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The
Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from
Jacob; For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.’ ”
B. USA AND PRESIDENT BUSH
1. 1 Tim. 2:1-8 “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and
thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that
we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to
come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom
for all men-- the testimony given in its proper time. And for this purpose I
was appointed a herald and an apostle, . . . I want men everywhere to lift up
holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.”
2. The prophet Bob Jones had a vision in 1999 that a Burning Bush would
come out of Texas, and in the second half of his second term, if the Church
would pray, this Bush would do much to end abortion, restrain homosexual
marriage, and restore prayer in schools in America.
a) At the recent prophetic roundtable that Peter Wagner and Cindy Jacobs
hosted in Dallas, the word of the Lord came that the church had dropped
the ball in praying for President Bush. The prophets repented.
b) Who knows? President Bush may have the opportunity to nominate
another Supreme Court justice who could help overturn Roe v. Wade.
3. We need to pray that God would raise up a pro-life candidate to be the next
4. We need to pray for revival and spiritual awakening in America.
C. SOUTH KOREA
1. Lee Myung-bak, a former mayor of Seoul, is a Spirit-filled believer now
running for president of the country. I have met and prayed with him three
2. He is a radical believer who dedicated Seoul to Jesus Christ. He experienced
tremendous persecution from the Buddhists for his declaration.
3. When Lee was mayor, Cindy Jacobs prophesied that he would one day be
president of South Korea. But we have to pray for it to happen.
1. How many of you feel convicted about not praying for our President?
2. There is no condemnation, but let’s pray for our President and for revival to sweep
3. Pray also for the elections in Korea and for any other nations for which the Lord has
given you a burden.
