OSTEOPOROSOUS AND CALCIUM DEPOSITS
The name osteoporosis actually translates into porous bones. It can become so advanced that
people will actually shrink as they get older . It is a common belief that this shrinking was due to
the bodys inability to utilize proteins that form the matrix of the bone, but this has since been
proven untrue . It is albumin in protein that distributes calcium and magnesium throughout the
body, and this is the primary role that protein plays. It delivers the calcium and magnesium to the
bone for growth; high protein diets alone do not correct osteoporosis . Neither do Androgen and
Estrogen take the place of calcium. These hormones increase bone growth in young animals, but
they inhibit bone repair in middle aged and older ones . All these elements do help, and are part of
the overall puzzle, but it is calcium more than anything that actually rebuilds bone and this calcium
needs magnesium, protein, phosphorus and Vitamin D to get the job done .
The average intake of calcium in America is below 500mg a day, or the same amount as 2 glasses
of milk. The average person in America needs approximately 2 to 5 grams a day, or the equivalent
of 8 to 20 glasses of milk a day to get what they really need. While other foods do contain calcium,
not many people are eating enough of them either. It takes at least 1 gram a day, or 4 glasses of
milk a day to begin restoring strong bone . As people get older, they consume not only less
calcium, but also less of all the other nutrients the aid in absorbing it , and this is a big reason why
we see osteoporosis skyrocket as people get older.
While some people may never consider taking this much for fear of creating or aggravating
calcium deposits, they need to understand that calcium deposits are not the result of too much
calcium, but rather the result of not having the other elements that store calcium in the bones.
When calcium reaches the bones, and they dont have enough magnesium and vitamin D, the
calcium is left to roam around in the body and deposit somewhere else. Not only are these missing
ingredients contributing to osteoporosis, but they are also creating the added problem of calcium
deposits. Calcium deposits are one of the clearest signs there is to indicate osteoporosis.
Nothing takes the place of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D when it comes to bone regeneration
and growth. The other elements add to this process, but the foundation cells that make up bone
are comprised of these 3 minerals .
Most people dont get enough simply because they are not aware of how important it is. Few
homes in America are without ample sources of dairy products, but we have become so
accustomed to foods that taste good, or are laden with sugar and salt, that we fill up on these and
forget all about nutrition. It is a well-established fact that the body needs calcium, magnesium,
Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and less phosphorus in order to restore bone . If people would simply make
up their mind to get enough of these nutrients, either naturally or through supplements, they can
reverse osteoporosis, and start building strong bones day by day. It is not a fast fix; depending on
how advanced the disease is it could take a few years to get back to your old self, but the end
result makes a significant impact on your quality of life.
Because of childbearing, osteoporosis is far more common in women, than in men, but it does still
exist . As this disease progresses, it will cause people to shrink, or hunch over as if they have a
large hump on their back. This will almost always compromise the lungs and other organs . Yet,
the blood calcium levels remain about the same because all the while, the body continues to take
calcium from the bones. Even in x-rays, osteoporosis is only detected after approximately 60% of
the bone mass has been lost, so detecting osteo-diseases can be kind of challenging. By the time
someone has lost 60% of their bone mass, this is equivalent to about 1 pound of actual calcium .
At this point, the person is considered at risk. They can easily fall and break something, and in
some cases the body will actually collapse under its own weight .
