It seems the celebrity gossip columns have a brand new target this week
after it was revealed that another former child star has fallen foul of
the law. Edward Furlong, who shot to fame in 1991 thanks to his
central performance as a teenage John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgement
Day, was arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly violating a restraining
order taken out against him by his estranged wife Rachael Kneeland.
While the actor has never really achieved the level of success he
enjoyed in his feature debut, he has scored a series of critical hits
including 1998s American History X and the Steve Buscemi-directed 2000
prison drama Animal Factory. However, Furlong had recently made his
return to blockbuster fare with a role in The Green Hornet, having walked
the red carpet for its premiere only a few days before his arrest, but it
remains to be seen if these latest accusations will have any impact on
his career. Of course, it isn't the first time that a child actor
has grown up into something of a hell raiser and wound up in trouble with
the law. In fact there are a slew of Hollywood starlets that started out
with a promising future but quickly ended up splashed across the
celebrity news pages for all the wrong reasons - here are just a few of
them. Lindsay Lohan She is certainly a favourite of most celebrity
blogs and tabloid newspapers across the globe, but long before the drink-
driving charges, car crashes and stints in rehab clinics, Lohan was a
rising star that looked like she could make a real impact on Hollywood.
After solid performances in wholesome Disney hits The Parent Trap and
Freaky Friday, some would say the teen actress peaked with 2004s Mean
Girls. However, while she did go on to make one or two impressive
appearances on film as an adult, her career has been sadly tainted by an
infamous party lifestyle. Macaulay Culkin While his career had
actually started earlier, with a host of TV appearances, Culkin became a
household name in the late 80s and early 90s thanks to his lead role in
Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. His career stalled a
little after the disappointing Richie Rich in 1994, but it gave the actor
a chance to grow up a little out of the spotlight before returning in
2003s Party Monster. Unfortunately, that's also exactly what he had
become by that point, clocking up a divorce and a reputation. Bobby
Driscoll Perhaps not as well known a name to modern audiences,
Driscoll's story is perhaps the most tragic of all. Scooping an Academy
Award for Outstanding Juvenile Actor in 1949 at the age of just 13, his
credits include Disney features like Treasure Island and Peter Pan to
name just a few, but his legacy is unfortunately for his mistakes in
later life. Severe acne in his teens damaged his career irrevocably and
arrests for drug possession, forgery and theft led him to rehab and
finally an early death. His body was found in an abandoned New York
building in 1968, but was not identified until a year and a half later.
