I got my start in obedience as a teenager, when my mother thought a summer dog training class
would be a good project. (Had she foreseen the early mornings and miles of driving to trials, she
might have picked a crafts class, but it's too late.) The summer project turned into 37 years, so
far, of involvement in dog training. My favorite breed is the Sheltie, and I've had 1 CDX, 3 UD,
2 OTCH (and 1UDX) Shelties. I've also put 1 CD and 1 UD on Norwegian Elkhounds, and CD
degrees on a Dalmatian and an Australian Shepherd. In the past decade I've enjoyed exploring
the more positive techniques available now, and exploring how best to find the right balance of
methods for each dog. I spent 19 years with a day job in veterinary hospitals before going into
dog training full time, and taught all levels of classes for Oakland Dog Training Club for 9 years.
Now living in Fall River Mills, CA, I enjoy training my own dogs more often, and still teach
private students, do the occasional training seminar, and run monthly classes in the San
Francisco Bay Area.
