Description

Boiler Feed water treatment chemicals removes dissolved oxygen and reduce corrosion in the feed water circuit and thus protects the equipment against damage and reducing the potential for unscheduled downtime. These chemical treatments also reduce the amount of metal oxides and metal hydroxides (rust) entering the boiler to maintain clean boiler tubes and improves fuel efficiency.

Corrosion in general terminology is the destructive attack of metal. Metal loss or damage can occur due

to chemical & electrochemical reaction, physical erosion or biological attack. Corrosion is always

because of chemical reaction. Water corrosiveness is determined by the impurities present in it. Oxygen,

dissolved solids, gases and acids in water attack the common construction material.



Major Problems due to Corrosion:-

 Poor heat transfer (power loss)

 Corrosions are of various types and differ with application to application.





A corrosion inhibitor is a chemical compound that, when present in a liquid or gas, decreases the

corrosion rates of metals. Fluid composition, quantity of water, and flow regime are some of the factors

upon which the effectiveness of a corrosion inhibitor depends. A common mechanism for inhibiting

corrosion involves formation of a coating or layer, so that the corrosive substance cannot reach the

metal. Corrosion inhibitors are additives to the fluids that surround the metal or related object.





A boiler is a steam generating device which is used to generate steam by applying heat energy to water.

It can be said that older steam boilers worked at low to medium pressure. When water is converted to

steam it expands in volume over 1,000 times and travels down through steam pipes at over 100

kilometers/hr. As this steam is a great way of moving heat and energy around a site from a central boiler

house to where it is needed, but without the right boiler feed water treatment, a steam-raising plant will

suffer from scale formation and corrosion. For this reason we have to apply different boiler corrosion

inhibitors so that a steam generating boiler operates in an almost corrosion and scale free condition.
