HEIGHTS

BRONTE
 INTRODUCTION
• This is a site that can be provide you
with a broader view of Wuthering
Heights. Here we focus on the author,
Emily Bronte. The author must have
the most direct influence on the
novel, so we collect many materials
and sort out the information they
maybe helpful for you to understand
  Wuthering Heights more.
 MAIN CHARACTERS

• Mr. Lockwood — look like the protagonist, but he
  was just a narrator !
• Heathcliff — be clear about what to love and what
  to hate !
• Cathy — in order to get Edgar’s heart and marriage,
  she betrayed Heathcliff !
• Edgar — he was rich, and married Cathy !
• Isabella — Edgar’s sister, and she married
  Heathcliff !
• Hindley — a man who was conceited and selfish !
• Catherine — Edgar and Cathy’s daughter !
• Hareton — Hindley’s son !
• Linton — Heathcliff and Isabella’s son !
 SUMMARY
• Heathcliff was a fosterling in
  Earnshaw’s family, but he was
  treated very badly, especially
Hindley. He loved Cathy very much,
but Cathy betrayed him and married
  Edgar. So Heathcliff hated
  Earnshaw’s ..and Linton’s families.
And from that time on, he planned to
avenge them. Finally, he won all the
fortune from these two families by
hood, but he never got truth love!
 REFLECTION

• It is a story that discusses love. It
not only talks about love between
  lovers, but also mentions some
  questions about love between friends,
  relatives, etc…
• If you read it carefully, you will
notice that there are many things
like the details of our daily life. And
we often make the same mistakes,
  don’t we?
 CONCLUSION
• I think the environment that Emily
Bronte lived in influences the reason
why she arranged “death and illness”
appearing constantly. At the time she
lived, there was a kind of epidemic-
  scarlet fever spreading widely in
which they lived. Consequently, as a
result of being this surrounding, she
  wrote Wuthering Heights with a
  series of death and illness.
