            awareness and sensitivity. Maintain a current insurable driver’s license.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Proposal and Business Development Manager is responsible for supporting the Firm’s business development
efforts through the proposal development and production process and related efforts, including assisting teams in
the preparation of new business presentations and generating new business leads. The Proposal and Business
Development Manager drives and takes ownership of entire proposal process, and continually looks for ways to
improve systems and processes designed to more effectively measure and increase conversion rates. This position
provides the opportunity to display a mix of business acumen, marketing, collaboration, critical thinking, and
strategic planning skills, and to be part of a marketing team focused on delivering sound advice and quality work
product while optimizing the return on the investment.


SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proposal Leadership

        Develop and integrate "win" strategy, themes, and value propositions into all aspects of the proposal
        Lead/facilitate interdepartmental teams in planning and developing a unified, compelling, persuasive and
         client/prospect-focused proposal

         Manage proposal content and strategy and provide feedback to the proposal team to guide proposal
         development
        Set appropriate milestones and lead internal reviews
         Write content and develop visual aids (i.e., graphics) to more effectively describe and support themes and
         key firm attributes
         Meet with appropriate internal team members to understand key issues and translate/integrate this
         meeting information into all aspects of the proposal generation process

Proposal Process

        Perform detailed analysis of RFP/RFI requirements and develop compliance matrices to ensure proposals
         meet RFP/RFI specifications
        Prepare proposal outlines, delivery schedules, production plans and internal review meetings
        Draft and rewrite sections of proposal as required and consistent with firm’s standards and protocols
        Participate in preliminary and proposal delivery meetings
        Responsible for final inspection of proposal package prior to delivery

Proposal Administration

        Maintain configuration management of proposal content
        When appropriate, monitor budget and address any cost overruns in accordance with agreed upon plan
        Meet regularly with management of other departments to facilitate interdepartmental cooperation and
         efficiency and to understand each department’s unique proposal needs
        Stay current with latest proposal trends/best practices and software solutions
        Create processes for identifying prospects and follow through to proposal delivery
        Develop PowerPoint and relevant materials for in-person presentations
        Participate in the Firm’s target business development efforts
        Coordinate with support functions to ensure appropriate resources are assigned to support the proposal
         (e.g., marketing, WP, etc.)
        In collaboration with the marketing team, ensure contact information for clients and desired prospects is
         updated in Firm’s Contact Management System.

Additional Responsibilities

        Oversee entire process to monitor and evaluate RFP legal public notices
        In collaboration with the marketing team and relevant staff, develop new or update existing content (i.e.,
         service and industry sections) for the Firm’s Web site and intranet
        In collaboration with the marketing team, create new or update existing time sensitive print and online
         materials, including biographies, sales and marketing collateral, electronic/print newsletters, client
         testimonial, case studies, etc.
        Provide “best practices” writing guidance to firm professionals

         best decision making process
        Demonstrate dedication and responsibility towards business development and client relationship building
         in order to achieve a high degree of client satisfaction, trust, and loyalty
        Assist the Principal Department Head in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets,
         billings, and projections in order to achieve financial strength and stability
        Participate in organizational development through review and assessment of systems and processes,
         refining as necessary to achieve the optimum operational efficiency and the development of sustainable
         best practices
        Demonstrate support of the community through service, leadership, and relationship building in
         community, charitable, professional, or industry organizations

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

        Strong, functional expertise in writing, editing and proofreading
        Proven organizational, planning and research skills. Must be able to meet strict and multiple deadlines
        Detail-oriented, self-motivated, productive and thorough; a fast-learner who can operate without close
         supervision and demonstrate good judgment
        Expert-level computer knowledge of MS Office Suite
        Strong business acumen and business development skills
        Energetic traits, with reasonable flexibility to accommodate workload peaks and the willingness to cover
         the occasional extended workday
        Knowledge of proposal software, CRM solutions and online applications such as LinkedIn preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

        Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, or other related field
        Five to ten years of proposal writing and project management experience in roles that required the ability
         to multi-task and establish production relationships with other professionals, preferably in a professional
         services firm environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

        Physical demands: the physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
         an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this
         job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear. There are
         prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The
         employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
         include reading, distance, computer, and color vision.
        Work environment: the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
         employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist,
         and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate.

        Mental Demands: there are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also
         multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people on various issues.
