Position Purpose The Course Manager role is responsible for:
leading the development and implementation of the Personal Injury Education
Program (‘the Program’), including course content and materials
managing all research undertaken by the Foundation into the personal injury
sector
identifying opportunities to improve the Program
providing strategic and expert advice to the Foundation’s management on the
Program.
The position operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires a
capacity to understand the complexities of the personal injury environment, exercise
sound judgement and undertake effective timely actions.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that Foundation management is abreast of emerging
issues and can respond in a timely and effective manner. The incumbent will require
sophisticated interpersonal skills to support the Manager in communicating key
messages to the Foundation Board and its members.
Primary 1. Collaborate with the members of the Foundation, tertiary institutions and
Responsibilities & research centres to successfully develop and implement the Program.
Accountabilities
2. Be responsible for managing, reviewing, undertaking and reporting on
research into ‘greenfield’ areas of the personal injury sector. Research
findings to be used to inform Program content and evaluation.
3. Provide advice and recommendations to the Manager, PIEF as required.
4. Identify and resolve policy, legal and procedural issues in relation to the
Program.
5. Take a leadership role by providing support, advice and direction with key
stakeholders to adopt the Foundation’s strategic directions.
6. Provide advice to management and directors on emerging operational issues
with the Program to enable the effective prioritisation and follow-through of
informed responses/actions.
7. Work with a high level of autonomy and accountability within the governance
framework set by the Manager, PIEF.
8. Coordinate the preparation of submissions, briefings and board papers on the
Program.
9. Achieve the Foundation’s goals and objectives of the Program through:
o contributing strategic thinking towards future directions of the Program
o adopting an open and effective communication style and providing timely
expert advice
o developing and maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders
o negotiating with and influencing key stakeholders to adopt the strategic
directions
o consistently applying, monitoring and evaluating Program policies and
professional standards.

Essential Skills, 1. Demonstrated ability to conduct quality research that has integrity / is in
Education levels & compliance with relevant methodological and ethical standards.
Experience
2. Knowledge and understanding of the tertiary education sector and experienced in
working with academics and supervisory/accreditation bodies to achieve timely,
high quality outcomes.
3. A demonstrated understanding of personal-injury stakeholders’ (inc. workers,
employers, providers, insurers and governing bodies) motivations, needs and
concerns.
4. Proven ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
5. Experience in needs analysis and the design, implementation and evaluation of
tertiary training programs.
6. Experience in formal instructional design techniques, templates and processes
that are based on adult learning principles and practice.
7. A highly developed lateral and analytical approach to strategic problem solving in
order to identify options and the implications of those options, and preparedness
to challenge the status quo and to implement new ideas and processes.
8. A proactive, solution and client service based focus with proven resourcefulness
and initiative, and the ability to achieve results.
9. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including
presentation skills, and the ability to successfully negotiate, influence and
persuade.
10. Proven ability to work under pressure, in a sensitive environment, to tight
timelines and to manage different priorities at the same time.
11. Excellent planning and organisation skills, with attention to detail and the capacity
to deal effectively with a wide diversity of tasks and to work to deadlines.
12. Sound understanding of personal injury and/or disability management or systems
for managing and compensating personal injury or the demonstrated ability to
acquire same quickly.

13. A relevant post-graduate tertiary qualification.
14. Sound competency with Windows-based applications. Familiarity with project
management software would be well regarded.
Additional This position will involve travel within Victoria, and therefore a current driver’s license
requirements is highly desirable. The position may also involve a degree of interstate and
potentially international travel.
