Chem 465 students,
As I mentioned in class, we will put websites in a folder for each proposition in my disk space
on the UD composers. While that is not what Hal did previously and while it is not optimal for
post-install corrections, it has the advantage of keeping the links alive to delight future
generations of Chem465 students.
To have your links work, you will need to test them locally (on your computer, using a common
directory) then migrate the links to the composers. As there will be a LOT of links and as I am a
terrible typist, you will need to do the links yourselves. What you will need from me is the name
of the common directory where your stuff will end up on the composers, so the links all work.
The generic directory structure is
/www.udel.edu -> chemo (my directory) -> teaching (a subdirectory for my courses) ->
CHEM465 ( a subdirectory for this course, and please note that case always matters on the
composers) -> SitesF02 (subdirectory for student websites made this semester)
or, briefly www.udel.edu/chemo/teaching/CHEM465/SitesF02
Now, the subdirectory where your stuff goes will be named Propxxy, where
xx is the number of the proposition you selected for presentation, and
y is a (for section 010) or b (for section 011).
Thus, the common link will be of the form
http://www.udel.edu/chemo/teaching/CHEM465/SitesF02/Propxxy/(your_filename_goes_here.ht
ml).
And, as an example, the group doing nuclear power (proposition 17, in section 11) might link to
a file called “mystuff.html” in the common directory for their web site as follows:
http://www.udel.edu/chemo/teaching/CHEM465/SitesF02/Prop17b/mystuff.html
The links are entered from Netscape composer by highlighting a section of text to become a
link, then right-clicking and selecting “character properties”, then select the “link” tab, then
entering or pasting in the link information.
Next, we need to decide on the order of presentation of the web sites. We should set the
schedule soon. The dates are
13 November - 4 slots (2 slots in the 1:25-2:15 period and 2 slots in the 2:25-3:10 time
period)
20 November – 4 slots
4 December – 4 slots
I’ll accept volunteers for any of the early slots at this point. We have 11 presentations, so there
will be 1 empty slot.
I hope that this is clear. If not, e-mail questions and I’ll try to clarify things further.
