                          Staff Attendance Procedures

It continues to be our goal to have a staff attendance rate of no less than 93%.
At the end of the 2006-2007 school year our staff attendance rate was 95%. I
certainly appreciate your efforts in maintaining absences at a minimum; also know
that I completely understand when emergency situations arise and legitimate
illnesses occur.

I take this opportunity to remind you of the district’s new attendance procedures
which are as follows:

    A tardy warning letter is issued upon reaching the 4th tardy. A 5th tardy
       results in forfeiture of a ½ day’s pay and for each tardy thereafter.
    A verbal warning is to be given for the second incident in which a staff
       member forgets to scan-in or scan-out.
    According to the contractual agreement between the Paterson Public
       Schools and PEA. After a 4th incident in which a staff member forgets to
       scan-in or scan-out the employee will be docked as follows:
          o Certificated staff $33.00
          o Support staff $16.50

“A professional is one who does his best when he feels the least like working”
                                                   - Frank Lloyd Wright
                              Conduct and Dress

All staff conduct is expected to be that of appropriate role models for pupils.

All staff members are expected to be neatly groomed and dressed in clothing
suitable for the subject of instruction, business transactions, the work being
performed or the occasion.

The State District Superintendent retains the authority to specify the following
dress and grooming guidelines for staff, within law, that will prevent such matters
from having an adverse impact on the educational process. All staff members shall,
when assigned to district duty:
          Be physically clean, neat and well groomed;
          Dress in a manner reflecting his/her assignments;
          Dress in a manner that does not cause damage to district property;
          Dress and be groomed in such a way so as not to cause a health or
            safety hazard;
          Refrain from attire, which may be deemed as revealing, provocative,
            or similar nature.

If a staff member feels that an exception to this policy would enable him/her to
carry out assigned duties more effectively, a request shall be made to the chief
school administrator.
                               Unbecoming Conduct

When an employee, either within the schools or outside normal duties, creates
conditions under which the proper operation of the school is affected, the State
District Superintendent in accordance with statute shall determine whether such
acts or lack of actions constitute conduct unbecoming a school employee, and if so,
will proceed against the employee in accordance with law.

Unbecoming conduct sufficient to warrant State District Superintendent review
may result from a single flagrant incident or from a series of incidents.
